I have a Radeon 9100 card with 128MB DDR memory. It has been able to handle all my games, until now. Just bought Halo, everything runs super slow. He walks is slow motion, the action is slow, when I press the fire trigger there is a 1 or 2 second delay and it sounds more like a slow cough then an automatic weapon. Do I need a better graphics card? I got it running on the lowest resolution, and its no help, thanks.

I ran Halo on a PIII 1.0GHz and a Radeon 7000. It wasn't too great, but it was still playable.

Just curious, have you run Windows Update? After I did, Halo seemed to play better.

I have all updates autmatically installed, so I am current. I wonder if adding more memory would help. I have 256MB and am thinking of going to 512MB.

Update your soundcard drivers, if you are using onboard audio... try getting a new sound card.

Don't feel too bad -

Halo is really a beast of a port, and quite a few gamers with solid systems have reported having trouble with it. I remember toying around with the demo on my Athlon XP 3200+ machine and getting slow framerates.

I did a lot of research on it, and it turned out that Microsoft/Bungie and the rest did a poor job of optimizing the port. Make sure to download any Halo game updates.

A memory uprade will definitely help. What speed is your processor running at? (I'm not sure getting a new sound card will help - I use on-board audio with no trouble.)

I run Halo at 1024x768 at max detail and I average 50-60fps on the PC in my sig, you need a hell of a computer to run this games and the 9100 you have is no good at that game, you need a at least a Geforce 5700 or Radeon 9600 Pro minimum to run that game

Something is definitely wrong...

Have you tried reinstalling the game yet?

Have everything up to date on your system?

Check windows taskmanager before/during play, you may have a program eating up cpu/ram time.

In short, i think your problem relates to a program running in the backround, but other things such as driver issues could be the cause, explore this.

BTW, Halo runs fine for me on my 2000+/512MB/GF4 ti4200 64MB @ 800X600 with everything turned on. I can run the game at 1024X768, but just not as smooth.

What is your processor speed. As far as graphics you should be able to play is fairly decently. I ran it on a 866mhz P3 w/ a gforce4 64meg card.

Now got it to run like a beauty on my xp3200 w/ a FX5950 256 meg card

Open the Readme File and go through the command line. Check for the line to disable the pixel shader in Halo i think the command line is "-usenull". (This will greatly improve the performance). I can only remember the command line to force the pixel shader 1.1 and 2.0 only. The command line in "-use11" and "-use20" respectively.

The PC version of HALO is an extremly bad port from xbox to pc, I tried demo, with everything on low at 640x480, and it was like 5-10fps. I run ut2004 with everything on highest at 1024x768 with eax enabled, and I get like 20-40 fps on it, so that really says something about halo, plus why would you be playing halo if you could be playing ut2004??? HALO SUCKS, FACE IT!

I have no problems with Halo on my PC - with everything cranked up.

Halo online gameplay totally rocks on my system. I played UT04 for a few weeks....it's alright but I'm already back to Halo. The gameplay just seems smoother to me.
