OS: windows 2000
CPU/Ram: AMD athlon 2400+ 512

I am sorry but i wont be abble to keep this short, however please anyone help me cause i really want to play this game, here is my problem:

by the way, my pc:
amd athlon xp 2400+
523 ddr ram
20 g harddrive (i know, it sucks :))
ATI Radeon 9000 128mb pro
MSI KT6 Delta Motherboard
Operation system, windows 2000

ok, here i go: when i installed halo fo the first time the game was running great, a little slow, but i didnt care. then i installed the latest halo patch and whenever i tried to play the game a message would pop up saying there had been a terminal exeption.

i had to unistall halo and install it again to get it to work...But!! at the first level the game crashed just at the cut scene where you are about to enter a escape pod and one of the soldiers is yelling while laying on the ground: "oh no, oh no!", this happens every time i try to play the game at that exact time where the soldier is yelling "oh no, oh no!" (it get in your nerves after a while :P). Somehow playing in safe mode or with the lowest video and sound options available the game doesnt crashes, but it looks like crap!!!!!

Also, as you would expect, lowering the video options a little improves my chances of not getting crashes that early while playing. I have also noticed that the game just crashes when speech or sound effects are being played......

Well, i guess thats it.... thanks for reading all that and again sorry for the long (boring :P) post, i want to play this game so much but i cant....please help!!!! thanks.

Try doing these options.

(1).Download & Install the latest drivers for your ATi Video Card. http://www.ati.com
(2).I am a gamer myself :P but I've never played Halo. Check and see if it uses Direct X. If it does, try installing the latest Direct X 9.0b and see if it helps. Installing Windows Updates might be helpful too.
(3).Well, I think an AMD ATHLON XP 2400+ computer with ATI Radeon 9000 is really powerful. I can't really see why you have any problems with it. Have you ever tried checking for software errors(Windows related) and viruses? If you are crashing a lot, it probably means you have a critical software error. Try Scandisk, or if you're a desperate gamer, try saving your files and reformatting :) [By the way, you should know that 20gb - 60gb hard drivers aren't that bad at all, because most games require around 1gb to install these days. Shouldn't be a problem]

I hope the info. I listed above helps. Reply back if it does! :)

There are TONS of problems here:

The Radeon 9000 is a fairly old card, and should not run Halo very well. The processor is fine.

Search the internet for answers, try different forums. Do they have a support site for Halo pc?

I don't know, but just keep the game stock. Don't update. Wait for another update, and then try it again.

Well, IMHO a Radeon 9000 isn't a bad card. I myself played Halo with a GeForce2 Pro, and I got decent framerates, albeit without any DirectX 9 fancyness.

I think your problem might be related to an issue I was having.

Have you tried Halo with the -nosound option? I had driver errors when I tried to play it with sound. I solved my problem by using VDMSound, which is a SoundBlaster emulator that's supposed to be used for DOS games.

http://ntvdm.cjb.net/

For some reason this helped me. (I used v2.04, haven't tried the 2.10 that's availible in the forums.) Also, I think Halo is just glitchy in the sound department. Narrative voices would just cut out at times, and I'd have to restart the game to be able to hear the storyline.

I'm running win2k with a geforce2pro, revolution 7.1 sound card, and an athlon 1200.

Good luck.

It might be win2000. This OS is notorious for sucky 3D performance, win2000 is not a gaming OS. I suggest trying win98SE or WinXP.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys. Could be heat related. Make sure u have enough venting and fans.

But, I would lean toward win2k being the culprit.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Halo=microsoft=crash

The above is a general rule to keep in mind.

Well, having said that, I have P4 2.4ghz, 512mb, with radeon 9000 128mb on win98se.

When you start the game, tells you it has serious issues with the vidcard even though in microsoft it says it is supported!!

When you "continue anyway", plays for a little while then freezes- showing a ddhelp fault in unknown module.

After several days of tweaking I got it to work -kinda!

1, Update everything: vidcard drivers, directx9, bios
2,Change typical role of this computor from desktop pc to network server-(system properties>performance > file system) Must have over 256mb system mem to make this an overall system improvement.
3,decrease monitor/vidcard adaptor rate to 60khz refresh rate
4, Place the "-use14" on the command line
5, use mimimal sound settings in the game
6,use MAX video of 800X600 or lower in game
7, use NOVSYNC in video settings in game and your video card in direct3d ("always off")
8, Save the settings, go to desktop and shut ALL running programs in background.

This worked (very rarely does it freeze now)on my system but it seems to be individual system specific depending on what you read on the web.

OK so I went to play halo but still caused it to freeze with the above--but wait found another trick.

I found you can play halo with everything on and default values on the vidcard and all video/sound options on the game if you play it in a window. Place the "-window" command on the command line. Only set back is you play it in a smaller then the monitor screen window, it wont let you adjust it window?!@#@?

Bill is too rich!!
