So i was playing Half-life, and i decided to mess around with the options. I put the resolution on 1280x1024 and the screen went blank telling me "Oversize Recommand mode 1280x1024"
-I understand why its telling me this, but how do i put it back to a normal mode, because i cant see the freakin screen!
*I have tried reinstalling Steam (Half-Life) but it did not good since it saved the settings to my username, and i cant get another username since i dont have another cd-key!
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd have to disagree w/ 1/3 of the world...

I highly doubt it saved it to your account, that would just be stupid. I bet that it saved it to a folder that when you uninstall doesn't get deleted because usually when people do it they want to keep their settings. You're gonna need to search your my programs folder and go to Valve. After you uninstall go there and delete everything. It you should just do a reinstall as if it had never been on your computer. You might want to try searching your registry (if you're comfortable doing that) for entries made by Valve or something.

Alert me after you respond otherwise I'll forget to come back.

Nope, no good. I uninstalled it, and check the Valve folder. There was no valve folder after i uninstalled it. But, after i uninstalled it i did however find Steam within the Registry. But im not going to mess around with that w/ out the proper help.
*After reinstalling again the screen was still at 1280x1024 and blank...so the problem still exists :(

I just fiddled around with it for a while more, and i even deleted the registry files in the folder STEAM, I still got no screen. I am now convinced that your login name has settings on it, and it kept those settings. Yes, it is stupid. Why can't there just be WON damn it!? What was wrong with WON!? but w/e, i guess there's two ways for me to go about this:
* make a new account and get a new cd-key
* If i could navigate the menu through my keyboard it and change the options it would work...doubt it...but if someone knew it well enough they could tell me...

Go here
\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[username]\half-life 2\hl2\cfg\

And open the config.cfg file with word pad then find the (-width) and (-height) commands.

If you want 800x600 resolution it should look like this -width 800 -height 600

If you want 1024x768 resolution it should look like this -width 1024 -height 768

So on so forth.

Hi,
In response to reply #3 it doesent save your settings to the network,They are saved localy on your computer,I know this because the settings i save for half life on my laptop are different to the settings i have saved on my desktop computer,So they are in the folder in program files somewhere .Hope this helps.

Go into your steam "Play games",
right-click on Half-Life,
select "properties",
select "Launch options" button,
put in (or add at the end):
-width 800 -height 600

Click OK,
click close,
double-click half-life.

enjoy. or else.

;)
