In HL2 im getting a memory error at exactly the same point everytime. It says a memory address and then says, the memory cannot be read, this then crashes to the desktop. ANy ideas?? Its at the point in black mesa east where you go through the security doors with the woman (dont know her name) after she tells you about that unused pasage way to somewhere. i go into the security lock, the first door shuts and its says loading on the screen, thats when i get the error. Anything i can try??

I remember a lot of people had this problem when hl2 first came out. Is your hl2 up-to-date, they released a patch to fix this problem a long time ago.
If you have the latest version, you can try copying and pasting this into your web browser "steam://validate/220" without quotes. This will check that you hl2 files aren't corrupted.
If that doesn't help, then your ram might be defective. You have 1GB right? If you have 2 sticks of 512, remove one and try to play hl2. If that still doesn't work try the other stick. You can also try using memtest to check your ram.

If you have an ATI video card, try disabling VPU Recover in your drivers.

I had this problem and fixed it by doing the following.
find your steam directory and look for folder 'steamapps'. In here look for 'half life 2' directory and rename it to 'half life 21'. then run steam and run halflife 2. It should run ok. quit the game.
Go to the 'half life 21' folder and copy your saved games into the new 'half life 2' folder.Adrian.
