Half Life 2 graphics problem

Hello, I have a problem with while I run Half-Life 2 on my computer. I have a GeForce 5900XT, and when I start the game up I don't even see my mouse cursor. While I am in-game I'll get lag every now and then and I'll hear the last sound played over and over, it's rather annoying. I just spent $175 on my video card, and I don't really want to pay any more money to replace any other parts of my system. I'm not sure if it's my graphics card or just my other specs. I'm running low graphics right now but it's still a problem. What should I do?
I'm running: AMD Athlon 2200+ 1.8GHz 512MB RAM GeForce 5900XT Windows XP

Question? Is it a legit copy of HL2? Going by your stats, your hardware is fine. You running it in direct x? or open gl? Having any other problems on your pc? try installing graphic, sound, direct x again. i have HL2 and i havn't experienced this as all/yet. Im running 256MB ATI RADEON 9600x-t AMD Athlon 2400+ 2x256mb DDR
Works perfectly fine on mine, not even on low graphics, good luck to ya mate.

I have a GeForce 5700 (256MB) and have had the same proplem with the lag/sound issue and I have seen posts about it as well - so it is not your hardware. Don't know about the issue with your mouse cursor. But for me just getting to the main menu is a long wait not to mention loading between levels

i think that you need a high level graphic card and install it properly or ot for the low processor you need 2.40ghz

This stuttering is a known issue in HL2. Check out the HL2 forums at www.halflifefallout.com
