hi ive bought half life 2 and wanna run it on my comp. problem is i have a crap graphics card, and only 512mbRAM. even worse is the fact i have a PCI slot (NOT PCI-E), so its hard to find a decent one of those for a decent price these days which can run half life 2. any advice wud be nice, and will a radeon 9250 be ok to run it without the lag
The best PCI graphic card is radeon x1300 PCI from visiontek then follow by fx5500 128bit. All other ones like 128mb radeon 9250 fx5200 are mostly 64bit memory interface. The radeon 9250 will run fine without any problems, but you won't able to use DX9 rendering...

I dont really agree with that, In toms hardware VGA charts the X1300 circles around 30FPS. I used to play HL2 with a 64bit FX5500 and I was ok playing it medium/high detail at 800x600. Although I did overclock the crap out of it. I'm sure that if you overclocked it a little you should be ok at 1024x768 medium detail with the X1300.

getting good video card doesnt guarantee the game will run smooth. i see many ppl have a similar problem like mine. i got a geforce 6800. but i got less than 20 fps in CSS. i tried all kind of reslution but didnt change at all. same in HL2.
HL2 is a game that pulls equally from all your system components. You could have an 8800GTX on a Celeron system, and it would run nearly as crappy as it would with an equally lesser video card.
I used to play HL2 on a 2.4GHz P4 with a Geforce MX440. It actually ran decently, but it used only DX7 rendering pathways, of course. You would see decent performance out of an X1300, but you would probably be better off getting an entire overhaul, as that card could run HL2, but would be awful for anything past present day.
