LOL....nVidia shows its true colors. I beleive this right here PROVES that in this round of video cards, nVidia takes the cake, and eats it, and shats it all over ATI. as for furball you ought to be just fine with your card and system, the benchmarks that were done with the 9800xt were done with antialiasing and anisotropic filters on. I have never found a situation where anybody uses these features, because they take preciuos FPS away. your 9800 pro card will do just fine, i beleive, with 1024 x 768 and high quality settings on. Im waiting to see how my 5950 ultra will perform without all that goofy AA and AF on.

If you can play Halo PC just fine, then you have no problem to fix.

im not buying those benchies...since in some benchmarks the X800 pro outperformed/mathced the 6800U...in this case the D3 is most likely into nVidia based cards...but have y'all seen what happened in Far Cry where the X800 pro outperfomed the 6800U...I think...so dont buy at one benchmark guys...wait till they benchmark HL2 sometime in this century...

i agree with you evans, how the hell can you (fury) say that, in almost every benchmark i've looked at for all the latest games the X800 XT outperforms the 6800 ultra at both high and low resolution and with or without the extras (AA)

So the big question is.....

Are all these benchmarks worth anything??

Clearly the 6800Ultra and X800XT are great cards either way, the benchmark results are inconclusive so who gives a stuff which one is theoretically better in certain games on certain systems at a certain time of day??

At the end of the day:

Do I need to upgrade??
Can you use the cards to play a game to a good standard??
Is this card overkill for what I need??
Which one is the cheapest??
Which one is most compatible/reliable??

Surely they are the only questions worth asking?

These benchmark scores are all well and good if you'd rather sit at home looking at how to improve some irrelevant score rather than just getting down to playing some games instead.. Its enough to give you a headache stressing about all these silly little scores.

True Snoop. A few, even 10fps isn't a major victory. Look at the price, look at the performance, and decide with those two factors in hand.

There are also a lot of variables to consider in testing hardware.

Doom 3 is optimized for nVidia, and Doom 3 uses OPENGL, Not Dx9. And you all should know that the 6800 pwnz X800 in OPENGL.

And X800 Pro beating the 6800 Ultra that is just some nonsense bs either from a sh*tty review or outdated. You all should know 6800 Series drivers are still maturing and every driver release is giving them a boost each time.

I'll clear this sh*t up..

6800 GT > X800 Pro = OGL
6800 U > X800 XTPE = OGL
6800 GT > X800 Pro = DX9
6800 GT > X800 Pro = DX9 + SM3
6800 Ultra < X800 XTPE = DX9
6800 Ultra < X800 XTPE = DX9

So u kno wat Evans, you're right. X800 XTPE is still dah fastest. Even with Sm 3 enabled on dah Ultra the X800 XT still beats it. But overall best bang for buck is GT cuz its $399 and can overclock to Ultra so easily.

ATi knew X800 Pro was losing to 6800 GT, so guess what? They are gonna release a new model to counter the GT. It will have 16 pipelines and will be about the same price as GT. so obviously its gonna make those who alrdy bought the pro pretty angry.

k? thx.

That's true, Doom 3 is Open GL, which is why id says nVidia. Same with Half Life 2 claming ATi over nVidia. One is using Open GL while the other is using DX9. nVidia has always squashed ATi in the Open GL department. But ATi seems to consistantly beat nVidia in DX9 apps.

I don't know about the new generation though. Is the 6800 faster than the X800 in DX9?

Don't you love fanboy debates?

I buy the best card I can for the money. Why people insist on talking about a particular brand like it's their son competing in the Super Bowl and how they're just so much better than the competition is beyond me. They need their heads examined.

MCSE, MCSA Messaging, baby!

to kinda clear the whole benchmarks debate up, benchmarks for the cards themselves dont mean shat. The only benchmarks you need to look at are the ones done on the games you play (or plan to play in the future.), I you think about it, it makes sense doesnt it? I dont give a flying F*** about your banchmarks in CS:CZ because i dont play that game. However i do care about the performance in U2 or U2X engines because these are the engines for the games I play. It can also be the other way around. In conclusion only care about the benchmarks for the games you play.

Ya know it's kinda sad how I paid when I got my 9800 Pro. At the time I got it, I found it on Ebay never-been-opened and won the auction for $312. I pretty much sh*t my pants over that too =). That was last year in July. Who would pay $312 for a 9800 Pro now????? LOL

Yeah that's true. But I've been seeing a lot of posts with people having some major issues with the 6800. What's up with that? A lot of driver issues? Or is it just the typical "new hardware syndrom"?
