Hi.
I just bought San andreas on dvd, but i can't play it because the game runs sooooo slooow.
My computer is a medion 2.4Ghz with 700+ Ram and i have a geforce graphix card with 256 MB Ram memory.
I did think that this would be enough to run this game, but i guess not.
Maybe some of you guys know of any settings that can make my game run much faster ?
Also i can't change screen resolution inside of the game, only on my 3d card ?
Even if i change resolution on my 3d card, i can't change inside game.
I've tried installing my 3d drivers all over again, but nothing works.
I would like to change the resolution of the game to 640*480, but it seems to have freezed at 800*600 ?

Thanks

Well, phil sure made an ass out of himself. Unless, that is, he wants to still contradict the fact that GTA:SA is available on DVD. BTW: I have it on DVD as well.

Anyway Hellfire, I'm pretty puzzled by your poor performance in GTA:SA since my specs are very close to yours. I have a 2.4GHz P4 processor, 1GB RAM, and a GeForce FX-5700 with 256MB RAM. Now the fact that your video card has 256MB RAM would leat me to believe that is is a fairly recent card. But as the others stated, it would be helpful to know the model.

The only advice I can give without more info is to go intot he options settings under display (or video) and see what settings you can throttle down.

Uh, a guy who points out you have no clue what DVD is? :-)

Dude, DVD is a format of an optically read disc similar to CD, but the etchings into the reflective metal are burned closer together, allowing for up to 4.7gigs of data per layer. DVD also allows for multiple layers of data within a side, which the laser reads by refocusing on the other layer. Dual layered allows for over 7 gigs of data per side. DVD's can also be double sided.

In the end, DVD's can hold up to a little over 34 gigs of data. With all that space, it was a technology at first most suitable for digital video. Therefore, you hear people say DVD stands for Digital Video Disc. However, that is incorrect. It really stands for Digital Versatile Disc.

Bottom line is it stores digital data, which could be video games, movies, or even music, as DVD-Audio has proved.

Ok, this is what i've found out so far.

Computer = 2.4 Ghz P4
Computer ram = 768 MB

3d Card = Geforce Fx 5600
3d card memory = 256 MB
Forceware-version = 77.72
Videobios-version = 4.31.20.40

Also installed directx 9.0 C

Still sloooow game.
Ok, when i'm running and walking, but driving a car is hopeless.
Tried turning off frame limiter, turned drawing distance to 0, and display resolution to 680*400, but that made it even worse so i set it back to 800*600.

Please Help ??

LOOOOL Phil, you're kind of funny. I like a guy who is suppose to help out people in here, and doesn't know what DVD stands for. Digital Video Disc is a very very nice try, but if you replace "Video" with "Versetile" (...or however its spelled...) you would be more right. And I own the game on DVD as well ;-)

Hello Hellfire...
I would try different drivers if I were you....at least try the Omega drivers for your card...not supported by nVIDEA but will improve performance in GTA SA. If not...try the earlier forceware 71.89...that might do it too. Its basically a game of trial and error with different drivers.
About being freezed at 800x600, you have to click on the setting, change it with the cursor keys then hit return...then it will be reset. You may also want to try bit colour if you're on 32bit.

Hope that helps

As i posted in a different post :

Everyone who wants to improve speed in GTA San Andreas, should remove sound accelleration on Direct X.
This is how to do it :

Press the START button, press RUN, write DXDIAG and press enter, and when the direct x screen pop up, then press on SOUND and move the slide bar completely to the left (Accelleration Off).

I tried to turn off the AGP Accelleration too, and i don't think it's worse, maybe a little better.
You find it on Direct x too, on the left next to SOUND, to find it press DISPLAY and on the bottom press DISABLE on AGP TEXTURE.

Hello, I have the same problem to! I have a Evesham Evolution 24000DLX: Intel P4 2.4ghz, 512MB ram, 120GB Hard drive, 128mb nVidia GeForce 4 Ti4600 Ultra graphics card. The game is really slow! It took me 20secs to walk up to the bike on the first part of the game! My PC works perficlly with games like Unreal tournament 2004, call of duty UO, and Fifa 2005. I tried puting every spec on the game to the min, it still was slow, it took me 7secs to go to the bike this time! Its crazy!

Hi all.
Thanks to Hellfire for posting both the problem and the most sensefull solution so far (for those who already own a so-so performant videocard)

Here another problem:
On my system, I can get a configuration that allows for almost zero-lag in the whole game. The cutscenes also run smoothly.
The hitch is, in *every* cutscene, the audio track starts about 3 seconds late. Everything is smooth, but you can clearly note the sounds being delayed by the same amount from start till end of the cutscene.

I havent come across such a problem on the net so far. I don't think its a audio or video issue, since both runs at 100% speed, but they are delayed from each other.

Any hint ?

I dont know the reason why its restarting. Probably u can uninstall and install again...and do it this time in a different location and a different folder name.

As for the performance goes, just set the detail level to low and not even medium even though you all have a kick ass PC. It just works at low detail level and not a grade more. I play at 1024 with full draw distance and 2x AA but details at low...works great..

and yea I too got San Andreas on DVD :) and yea guys Phil need some digital help..

Subject to magnosis' message concerning the sound - video delay problem in GTA San Andreas' cut-scenes, I was wondering whether any other users of the game are experiencing the same problem and, if so, if they had found a solution. I too have looked all over the net for a solution to no avail. I don't even think there is a patch out for GTA yet to try and fix this problem. THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING WHEN PLAYING THE GAME!

Hey PHIL u r 1 thik ass!! Anyways, i dont c how evr1s havin so much probs with San Andreas. It runs on my Athlon 2200 with 512 ram and a geforce 4 MX at 1024x768x16 with draw distance at half n the rest on medium. I get roughly 20-25 fps, so just playable, but cristal clear. I would recommend every1 with slow performence dwnld the forceware drivers that enable u to disable pixel; shaders. This may make a big difference, especially with slower FXs (52/55/5600) because as we all no they suk wen it comes to pixel shaders.
