I recently purchased san andreas for the pc and was devastated when I discovered that my computer just doesn't want to run it properly. I'm using a Creative 3d Blaster Fx5200 ultra and reading through the forum it seems I'm not the only one to be having problems with this card.
The problem I'm having is that after a few minutes of gameplay the graphics descend into chaos most of the time making it impossible to actually play the game. The scenery turns into masses of polygons, often obscuring the camera view. The problem sounds very much like the problem with GTA: Vice city as described here: http://www.computing.net/gaming/wwwboard/forum/1084.html

Unfortunately there hasn't been a similar fix released for San Andreas and the only way I can fix this problem is to alt & tab out of the game and then back in which returns the graphics to normal for a few minutes. Any more permenant fix suggestions would be greatly appreciated - it's no fun playing the game in five minute installments,

-Thanks in advance, Chris

Update your drivers for your card, if their up to date reinstall them. ALso the FX 5200 is a bad card from most reviews, it is not a gaming card by far, I would go as far as to say go out and get a slightly better card, perhaps a radeon 9600 XT, you can get then for under 100 dollars these days and they kick the pants off a FX5200.

The 5200 should still adequetly run sims 2. Sounds like adriver issue more then anything, either your graphics drivers or chipset drivers, you may need to even roll back to an earlier driver set, i couldn't tell you which one though.

I had a similar problem with my FX5700 on some games, all the newer drivers casue the exact problems you are talking about, with farcry for example

AMD Athlon64 3500+
1024MB 512x2 Dual Channel Corsair TwinX
Coolermaster Wavemaster
120GB Seagate SATA HDD
Gecube X800XT Platinum
Logitch 5.1 Surround
LG 16x Dual Layer DVD
