i think it maybe a case of overkill because i have tried to run GTA3 on my pc and it seems to not run on it. i dont think it can cope with the newer stuff

I'm no expert, but I would have thought your specs would easily run gta3.
I had a problem running toca 3 recently, even though it had played on my pc in the past, & I had upgraded the graphics card & the memory.
I created a new partition with windows, now it works well.
I suspect there was some junk on my original windows partition.
Go to gta3 forums to see if they can help.
Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

There's not all that many games that are optimized for dual core CPUs yet, let alone quad core. With older games, you're only using a single core. When was GTA3 released, 4-5 yrs ago? Are you having problems with any other games?

Are you running vista on it? If so compatibility maybe an issue, you might want to check their website and download the lastest patches.
