Hi,

I've just bought a new XFX 256Mb 6800 Ultra, expecting that I could run Doom 3 and Half Life 2 with little blips and bumps! However, I am having trouble, in hls and doom3 I just keep getting jumps, and freezes, I should be able to run these games at decent levels but I can't! I have the latest drivers and just don't know whats wrong! please could anyone help?

The processor is not the problem unless if it was related to heat then it could contribute, Defragement, scan disk, and check for viruses and spy wear, if that doesnt work I would suggest taking off the side of the tower ( or whatever incasement you may have) and see if that effects it. If so then you need better ventalation, if that does not help try downgrading the drivers and see if it helps any, if not.. well it could be a bad card.

Did you uninstall the old drivers for the old gfx card completely before you installed the new one?

Did you update your motherboard's chipset drivers?

Yeah i've updated the drivers on motherboard and on gfx ones, I've checked the heat levels the spu is at roughly 63-66+ and the gfx card runs at 50-60. I've done a de-frag and I've scanned for spyware etc, maybe a bios problem? I really don't know, I've tried down grading the gfx drivers now and that doesn't seem to make much difference.

Trying a new BIOS may not be a bad idea.

You could also run perfmon and monitor % CPU under Processor, and % Physical Memory usage. WOuld help to trace it to lack of RAM or overly taxed CPU.

Have you run chkdsk yet?

Do you mean CPU?

66C is too high - not dangerously so, but definitely higher than I'd want it to be if it were mine. Try to verify that your temp reading is correct. Try the "touch" method to see if the heatsink feels overly warm. You may need to clean the HSF of dust or possibly apply a fresh layer of thermal paste. How many case fans do you have & how are they arranged? What PSU do you have?

I have a HiperPower 480W+ PSU, a CoolerMaster Jet Engine fan (for CPU) fan in the middle of the mobo, fan on the hdds a fan on the side and a fan on the back. I haven't tried dusting it yet, I'm just getting loads of problems still!
