I have an Intel extreme graphics 2 in my Dell. Games run slow, and I may try giving it extra RAM via BIOS as suggested by a friend, but I would like to know how many MB the graphics card is. I've been offered a 16MB card for free, but don't know whether it will be an upgrade at all. I have a 3.06GHz processor and 768MB of RAM. Thanks!

Also, if anyone knows what amount of MB a graphics card needs for Counter strike: Source I would be grateful

Onboard graphics are not good for gaming...they have to use the system RAM, which is slower than video RAM, plus it steals power from the CPU. Usually, you can change the "shared memory" size in the BIOS...generally, the choices are 8, 16, 32, 64, or 128MB, some even allow 256MB to be used. Regardless, this is no substitute for a "real" video card. I don't think a 16MB card is an improvement though. There are plenty of decent lower end 128MB/128-bit cards available for between $50-75, provided you have an AGP slot.

I have a current budget of about £0 (I'm in the UK) I'd figured that my onboard card wasn't sufficient, do you know what it is currently, because if it's round 8MB it would still be at least some improvement if I installed a 16MB one. Thanks!

To play a game like CS:S, you'll have to set it to atleast 32/64MB. Even then, it'll still run very bad.

You'll be better off saving some money and buying graphics card like Jam said (providing you have a PCI-E/AGP port).

ok, thanks. By a budget of £0, I mean I have no money to spend. I guess I need to get a job. I found my onboard graphics card is 64MB, and it runs very jolty, even when I stepped the AGP RAM usage up to 256MB. Thanks guys.
