Comment:
i have recently bought a Nvidia Gforce 6800 GS,and have installed it on motherboard correctly, but i cant seem to get it working, everytime i loads up a game ti crashes and restarts my pc, do you have any suggestions?
ps, i dont know if this helps but i have a 450w psu
Is it true power? Your 1GB RAM (not 1GHz RAM right?) can also be the culprit. Check on the heat dissipate by your CPU and RAM. Another thing i suspect that you're using SP1 try to update to SP2 and all its hotfixes and see whether the problem solved.

yh 1 gb ram, lol, installing service pack 2 now, some1 said my motherboard mighjt not be comaptible i have a ASUS P5VDC-MX not sure where i can find out if its compatible tho, im usually good with these things, but now i jus feel stupid, lol
All motherboard compatible with SP2 (most modern motherboard at least), its an essential download and update nowadays. I'm using ASUS P4PE-XTE and did not find any problem with SP2. The only problem that i faced was playing the ProEvolutionSoccer6 on SP2 will keep it crashing, and that's it.
Most of Microsoft essential download requires SP2 (ex. .Net Framework etc). Anyway, can't say that the update will make your mobo stable. But its worth a try and good for your computer too in terms of security and functionality for your Windows.

ok, its totally updated, still having probs with finding a driver, all i find is forceware or something and all that does is crash my pc and restart it when it gets to half way complete, im on the verge of just giving up.....:(
NVidia forceware IS the driver. The latest by 6800 driver will be 93.71. http://www.nvidia.com
I think NVidia already stop the WinXP driver update for 6 series card. Anyway use this official driver update, instead of getting it from other sources. I'm using 6600GT and have no problem updating.

thats what i have been using, so i think theres a fault with the card itself,or whoever had my pc before me screwed it up, might try putting it on anohter pc, see if it works there, thanks for your help
That's also a way to check the card functionality. Try to do benchmark (ex. 3D Mark) and run all benchmark. Then try 3D card tortured games (ex. Oblivion/FEAR) and play it for an hour. If no artifacting or crashing happens you can safe bet that your card is allright.

I have that same card and two things have caused the same thing to happen to my computer.
Your power supply watts don't matter much. What matters is the amps on the +12volt rail. Check the specs on your PSU and if it doesn't have at least 18amps on the +12volt rail it's not sufficient. That card requires 18amp minimum.
After I had my card for a few months my cpu fan started to get dust buildup and was overheating everytime I started a game. After I removed the dust from the fan and heatsink everything worked fine again.
my mate is looking at it cos he is good with circuits and things, he said theres nothign wrong with the board itself, so it has to be the flash memory or something, he is trying to find the files for it, any idea where we coudl find them?
