Subject: graphic card for HaloOS: Windows XP (Dutch)CPU/Ram: AMD Duron 1,6 Ghz/256 Mb |
Comment: I currently have a Club3D ATi Radeon 7000 32 MB video card, but when I play Halo the computer is really slow and it 'stutters'. What would be best; upgrading my videocard to an Asus ATi Radeon 9200SE 64 MB, or add more RAM? Lizette

Reply: (edit)Video card, definitely. I have a GeForce 4 MX440 64MB (pick one up for around £25 $50) and it runs Halo like a dream. Your processor is fine, and although Halo wont run too badly, more memory would certainly help too.

Reply: (edit)Hooner, Halo lags on the beefiest PC's you are just a stoner. Halo is PROVEN to be laggy no matter what. I have an ATI RADEON 9600 128MB and it lags. NO matter what, Halo will not play nicely.

Reply: (edit)"Halo is PROVEN to be laggy no matter what. I have an ATI RADEON 9600 128MB and it lags. NO matter what, Halo will not play nicely." Hey um, no offense but Halo does NOT lag on the beefiest pc's. the video card you got is fairly cheap, and crappy compared to the really expensive ones, such as Radeon 9800 XT. So before you say "Halo is PROVEN to be laggy no matter what", get a better video card. and Lizzete, upgrading your video card is the best choice, but it won't hurt to upgrade the ram too. remember that 9200se supports Direct X 8.1, and Halo is DIrect X 9.0, so you may still experience game lag. Upgrading to a Direct X 9.0 video card should increase your gaming performance for Halo. The best bang for your buck right now is the 9600 XT ($200 U.S) or for about 70$ more you can get the 9800 Pro.

Reply: (edit)Clearly you don't have the first clue about how to setup a PC, as you seem to have some MAJOR bottle-necking going on there. I find it funny as my puny GeForce is kicking your Radeon's įss................ Learn something about PCs, come back in a year.

Reply: (edit)esp, the 9600 128mb is not that crap m8,yes the 9800xt is better but its not really worth all that money,i have a 9600xt 256mb and is runs halo ok,30fps+ with not anti aliasing or anso filter, halo is a really buggy game,my m8s got a alienware pc,it's got a amd fx pro with a 9800xt,and guess what??,halo runs choppy, and hooner, what in gods name are you talking about, you must have the halo on the lowest settings to even think about play that game with your specs, and i don't lie.

Reply: (edit)david, the 9600 is crappy if you compare it to the pro & xt versions. i too think halo is a bit buggy but turning off vysnc in video options can increase a lot of fps especially with 9800xt. overclocking can help a o. by the way, whats fx pro? do you mean *ultra* by any chance. and hooner, a geforce 4 mx is much worser than Radeon 9600 lol

Reply: (edit)I never made any claims that my card is better than a 9600 EsP, but if my card can run it, why is this chump having trouble with his 9600?? David, 1024x768, all settings on FULL, she runs like a dream, wether or not you believe me, means less than nothing to me.

Reply: (edit)ok well i installed the demo version of halo to see if it really is laggy or not. my system specs Pentium 4 2.8ghz Geforce FX 5700 Ultra O/C'd [Note that this video card is about the same price as Radeon 9600 XT] Creative Soundblaster Audigy LS 512mb PC3200 DDr400 RAM I ran the game in "No Vsync Mode" at 1024x768 No AA or AF and high texture & video quality etc... the fps was usually around 50-70. The lowest fps was around 30 and the highest was 120. I played Halo for a while and it did lag sometimes but barely, most of the time it was very fast & the graphics were amazing.

Reply: (edit)I don't agree, I don't think the graphics warrant the strain it puts on your system. There are much more beautiful games out there (Max Payne 2, Call Of Duty, UT23K) which don't put half the strain on our systems. We will always suffer when games are ported over from consoles, the only exception is Vice City.

Reply: (edit)ok,esp, what i meant was a amd fx proccesser, hooner,i agree with you,the graphics are good, but nowhere near like that in ut2003 and unreal2,both these games run like a dream on my pc with highest settings and high anti alias 4xaa&8af 1024-768.i can't for the life of me see why this game is such a system hog, anyway, don't really like the game that much, max payne 2 is better, and vice city

Reply: (edit)It's AI apparently, the AI routines are so "complex" that when there are a lot of enemy around, it chokes the CPU. Do you see anything special? anything better than the Half-Life marines who graced our screens 5 years ago? It's a lame excuse.

Reply: (edit)Kiss my shoes boys Got a P4 2.8 w/ 800 fsb, 1024mb ddr400 ram and 9800 pro and I still stall in some places (run everything max and 1600x1200, but still!). Halo is just a poorly build piece of software. Microsoft should have done a better job at porting it over to pc.

Reply: (edit)Hmm when Half-Life 2 comes out I doubt that it will lag as much as HALO...will it? I think my FX5700u would run perfectly with the game. Can't wait till it comes out...

Reply: (edit)Halo does lag but most of the time it has nothing to do with your video card as much as it has to do with the server. SO DONT EXPECT TO PLAY HALO AND TO HAVE IT RUN PERFECTLY EVERY TIME IT WONT HAPPEN!!!
