Hello Guys, For the past 2 days my gpu fan was making loud noises. I removed my gpu out and cleaned lot of dust from the fan and put it back in, but it still made loud noises. Today evening I turned on my pc and the noise was suddenly gone, it was dead silent. I opened the case and found the gpu fan was not rotating, and the cpu temperature in nview was 114C. I immediately turned off the pc, and wanted to remove the gpu thinking I would have to send it for repair. However, I gently rotated the fan with my finger, and tapped it a few times and started my pc again, and the fan is working again and the temp is again 59C, as it usually is. However, I am not sure how safe this is. What would happen if the fan fails again? I leave my pc on all day, and I am not always in my room to monitor the temperature. I have set the nview software to give me a warning when the gpu temperature crosses 90C. I thought the xfx gpu fan would be more reliable, however I have been using this gpu 16+ hours a day ever since I have had it, and it seems to have broken the fan a bit. Sarosh

Over-use didn't break the fan...the problem is due to dust in the fan bearing. All you can do now is clean it as best you can. As a precaution, you could remove the fan & add a drop of oil to the bearing. But if you're concerned that the fan might seize up & overheat your GPU to death, you should consider replacing the fan with a new one or at least shutting down the PC when it's not being used. In the future, clean the inside of your PC on a more regular basis.

Hi Jam, Your right about the dust, there is too much of it in there. Its almost got stuck to some parts in thick layers. My card has a think plastic plate covering it, and if I can remove that plate I can clean the fan much better. I couldnt open the small screws with the screw drivers I have, I'm going to buy one. You think cigerete smoke in an enclosed room could go and collect on the fan in this way? Sarosh

Hello again, As a precaution I have removed the 6800xt and put my older fx 5200 in. Can you tell me how I can check the temperatures of this card? I cant find it in the latest nvidia control panel, and neither can I figure out how to check the temperature in riva tuner. Sarosh
