Good rig bad lag

December 28, 2012 at 20:26:43
Specs: Windows 7, I5-3570k/corsair vengeance
I play all the games that I have at 60+ fps but for some reason when I am playing minecraft every once in a while my fps will drop to 0 and I have to x out of that window. When I play ac3 randomly my computer goes to the desktop and stops responding. I have an i5-3570k and a Evga gtx 660 sc with 16 gb of corsair vengeance ram. I use a 128 ssd and have an nzxt phantom 410 with extra fans added to it. I think that this might be due to my 650 watt corsair 80+ bronze crap psu or could involve my Gpu overheating. I need help, I just built this rig and spent a lot of money on it.

Lets start with the overheating issue,
Download GPU-z and monitor ur temps at idle and when ur gaming post em here.
also download speedfan so we can see the temp of everyhardware component u have.
Is this the power supply u have ? :

"nzxt phantom 410 with extra fans added to it"

Ugly case but we all have our personal likes, I guess. The case doesn't need extra fans. One exhasut fan in the rear is all that's necessary. Depending on what you added & where, you may have actually lessened the cooling ability.

"randomly my computer goes to the desktop and stops responding"

Could be a software issue or infection. Which anti-virus program are you running? Could also be bad RAM. Have you ever run memtest86 for an extended period? Have you manually configured all the BIOS settings or are you simply running auto/defaults?

"could involve my Gpu overheating"

Post the GPU & CPU temps.

BTW, your PSU is NOT crap. Corsair markets some of the best PSUs available. And in case you didn't know, Corsair doesn't manufacturer PSUs. Your 650W is made by Channel Well or Seasonic.
