I have 1024 MO ram
Pentium 4 3.00 GH

Games recommend I play on High quality gfx, but when I do it lags like mad, I cannot even go on the medium settings, and some games, low graphics will eun on lag too, Any suggestions on what to do?

If your DELL only has PCI slots, you're not gonna get anything better than the FX5700LE, provided it's the 128-bit version. PCI video cards are obsolete & they've stalled in their progression. Many FX5700LE models use 64-bit memory instead of the much better 128-bit....the peformance difference is in the range of 40%

"How can I check?"

What's the make/model of your PC? All the specs will be listed at the DELL website...including how many/what type of slots are on the board. If the video card was an upgrade, you'd have to check it's specs to find out whether it's the 64-bit or 128-bit model.

"Best you can get here atm" ?? Unless you're living in Northeast Katmundu, I highly doubt it's the best you can get where you are.

yeah turn shaders of in the games even 128's lag with shader on only 256 cards can handle game in full rez with shaders on.
i have game running on old cards for a test and all i had to do was turn the shaders off.

Give it a go you will see the differance.

yeah everyone likes to see the best picture that why people buy HD tvs just work to what your hardware and handle, the extra graphics is only eye candy for you so if you do n't mine playing with lower graphics go for it as long as you get best proformance and you enjoy the game.
As a game is no fun if it looks good but is not playable.

hope this helps

If all he has is PCI slots, the FX5700 IS the best you can get!

"is there a guide on here so I can tweak my xp to make my games run smoother?"

1st of all, don't try to run your games on high settings...your card isn't good enough.

2nd, make sure to keep your system clean. Scan for viruses & spyware regularly. Use a program such as CCleaner (aka Crap Cleaner) to clear out temp files, temp internet, etc. Run MSCONFIG to prevent unnecessary programs from loading at startup. And don't forget to defrag

3rd, tweak your BIOS settings. The BIOS can make you or break you. Simply clicking "load best performance settings" or "load optimal settings" is not the way to go. Each setting to should be adjusted accordingly to your particular hardware configuration.

4th, tweak XP settings for best performance. There are tons of sites that deal with this...do a Google search
