i accidentally hit my nvidia geforce2 mx video when it was plugged in when i was playing a game and my video froze and my monitor wouldnt come back on. so i plugged my monitor into the onboard video card and it would work. but i cant play my games with out the geforce2. so i tried reinstalling windows and i tried updating my drivers for the card. when i try and install the new drivers i get this message "The nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. setup will now exit." i dont know what to do about this. any help would be appreciated

Well, I got a similiar problem and just fixed it about 10 mins ago. You are probably installing the wrong driver(S) for the card. You can find the latest drivers at www.invidia.com Try all of the drivers. If that dont help I dunno what else you could do. Unless you damaged the card when ya hit it.

"i accidentally hit my nvidia geforce2 mx video when it was plugged in"

What do you mean you hit it? Did you remove the side panel & reach inside?

You certainly didn't need to reinstall Windows & shouldn't have to do anything with drivers...if it had been working & you "hit it", it's most likely a hardware problem. Possibly you knocked the card loose in the slot & it needs to be reseated?

i have the side panel of the tower off and i hit it with my foot sitting down. i tried reseating it also.when i plug my monitor into the onboard video my monitor will turn on and it will work but when i plug it into the video card the monitor wont even turn on only the orange light that shows it is off will be on. i pulled out the card and inspected it and i couldnt see anything wrong with it physically. i installed my game(world of warcraft)and i couldnt play it using my inboard video. so i tried downloading and installing the drivers for my video card but it would still coem up with the same message about it not being able to locate any drivers that are compatible with the hardware. i also tried your suggestion helpme and i tried installing the other drivers they have and they all gave me the same message =\

"i have the side panel of the tower off and i hit it with my foot"

Sounds like you should rearrange your setup...& why are you running with the side panel off?

If you connect the monitor to the video card, do you see the boot screen or nothing at all? Have you tried disabling the onboard video in the BIOS & changing the initial display setting?

You may have physically damaged the video card when you kicked it. I still don't understand why you thought reinstalling Windows would fix it?

well, its time to replace your old card. you video card should be retired now. for you, you can get a geforce fx5200 or 5500. they are cheap. at least is better than the geforce 2 mx.

the tower was given to me like that. when i connect the monitor to the video card i get nothing at all it acts like my computer is shut down. the reason i reinstalled windows was becuase when i get to the loading screen for windows b4 i get to the login screen my computer would restart. so i tried doing a roll back and it didnt work plus i needed to clear space on my hdd. reinstalling windows actually has nothing really to do with this thread. i looked aroud in the bios for something and came across the vga setup but i didnt mess with it. anything special i should set it to? i only know basics on computers

onboard is suck. just get a fx5500 its under $40. and it can handle some latest games today with lower setting.

"the tower was given to me like that"

Well, it's generally not recommended to run a PC with the side panel off, unless you only do it for a short time while troubleshooting or making changes. You might wanna consider rerouting the cables & putting the case in a different place where someone's foot can't easily be put inside of it...lol.

My guess is you damaged the video card, or possibly the slot. Do you have another card or can you borrow one just to see if it works? Is it an AGP or PCI card? If you don't know the difference, the AGP slot is the uppermost slot & it sits farther away from the rear of the case than the other slots. Based on your system description....

"CPU/Ram: amd athlon 1800+ 448 ram
Manufacturer/Model: km400-, awrdacpi"

....you probably have 512MB of RAM & you're using 64MB for your onboard video, leaving you with 448MB, & you probably have an AGP slot on a KM400 board. As KKK said, the GF2 MX is old/outdated & there are plenty of better cards that don't cost all that much. You may have no choice but to replace the card.

You don't have to install the drivers...just pop in the card, connect the monitor, & bootup to see if you get a display.

If this is happening with a different card, it's possible that you damaged the slot. Make sure to double check your BIOS settings...

How about posting the make/model of the board & I'll have a look at the manual. There are lots of boards based on the KM400 chipset
