Both of those cards are previous generation so look at the X800XT PE.

Yeah.... the Radeon9800XT and Geforce 5950 is sooo outdated...
No, no it's not. He wants to know which one of those cards are better, not your opinion on which card he should purchase.

I'd go with the Radeon9800XT, but I think it depends on the price of both cards. Go with the cheapest one you can find in that range.

There you go, a simple answer for a simple question.

He asked which we think is best so he does want our opinion. Two people have said to look at the new generation of cards. If he's going to pay a premium why not get the latest generation? The X800 Pro is about the same price as a 9800XT, and the XT PE a little more. Just answering his question is bad advice.

9800XT VS FX5950 and the WINNER is 9800XT oh wait...yup 9800XT is way better than FX5950 if you see some bechmarks, the 9800xt smokes the hell out of FX5950...but again like the someone here have mentioned, if you wanna spend 400-500 bux...i'd strongly recommend you get the X800 PRO or X800XTPE or the newest from GeForce, the 6800 Ultra

Ok then, how do the new gen ATI and Geforce measure up together.

New question : Ati X800 vs. GeForce FX6800

The comp i found can't have the X800 added yet, so i want to know if you think its worth waiting for (as i can get a FX6800 on it already)

6800 GT is overall the best card for the price. But X800 XT vs 6800 Ultra the X800 XT wins but who knows? The drivers are beta..

If you're comparing the price between the X800 and 6800
you might want to take note that if you get the 6800 - you might also need a new power supply as that baby needs 2 dedicated power cables (can only share with fans - no drives)

Money not an issue?
Where do you live and when are you not home?

And not only 2 power connections but at least a 480watt ps(WTF? its just a video card) nvidia is saying.

The power issue and also the 6800's take up a PCI slot with the large fan. You really should have a good 400+ watt PSU anyway but it shouldn't be required by the video card.

Another thing to consider is ATI cards have always had better gaming image quality.

You guys are whack, those rumors are so outdated -_-

power isnt an issue for the 6800 series at all..maybe the ultra(cuz two molex and pci slot taken) but the gt and the nu requires only 1 and only 1 slot. the gt pwnz overall becuz it performs good, only takes up 1 slot and 1 molex, and overclocks good =P

and btw topper thats not true about ati having better iq, the geforce fx had some s---ty iq i know but 6800 has much better iq and sm3

Since the 6800 does have the sm 3 the image quality is a lot better. It's almost scary. I saw some Far Cry screen shots using sm 3.0 and I could have thrown my 9800 pro out the window.

Also like to add that the 6800U only uses 15 Watts more than Fx5950U..

Mechruler, IQ : Image Quality
SM3 is Shader Model 3.0(Dx9C), its basically SM2 with much more instructions meaning higher performance and improved iq

Yeah nVidia recommended 480W at first but then lowered the recommendations..

Look at Newegg's 6800NU power Req.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-122-193&depa=0

And take a look at Guru3d's 6800GT Review, they used a Standard 350W PSU and 6800 GT/Ultra ran without any crashes
