Reply: (edit)Couldnt really find any info on the FX 5500 but u will notice that the 9600SE is almost the worst video card u can get these days. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/vga_charts-04.html#3dmark_2003 Are u able to spend more money on one cause for a AMD64 3000+ it would be a shame to have that crappy card =p -------------------- Asus P4P800S mb P4 2.4Ghz (800Mhz) 1Gb DDR3200 Ram Asus Geforce FX 5600 128mb

Reply: (edit)well they both suck and they would be a major bottleneck to your uber-expensive/fast athlon 64 proccesor if you must go the cheap route, i would advise you to at least spring for a 128bit 9600 all the 9600SE cards, as far as i know, are 64bit and that is just horrific for gaming several regular 9600s are 128bit and for only $20-30 more it is well worth it unless of course you do not game, then this is all irrelavent or if you only play very old games and use you pc for other things ooh that's a tough word to spell irrelavent what is painfully obvious to one person might be just painful to the other

Reply: (edit)Having just come off a similar high-end CPU to low-end Video Card match-up, I can tell you that either of those cards will take you were you want to go gaming wise, as long you are selective with what titles you play and use conservative settings. The SE series of video cards isn't as powerful as the regular group of offering from ATI, so as a gamer and someone who REALLY cherishes smooth performance, I would start looking in the FX5700 or Radeon 9600 range.

Reply: (edit)9200 se is about as good as fx5200 and the fx5500 is basically a fx5200 mildly overclocked... they both suck on a comp like that i would rather prefer a 9800 pro :D Rig #1 Abit IS7 P4 2.8ghz eVGA FX5900 SE OCZ 1GB CL2Rig #2 Asus K8N-E AMD 64 3000+ ATi 9800 Pro Samsung 1gb

Reply: (edit)If those were the only two you had to choose from, then i would get the 5500, cause the se sucks. If your willing to pay a little more, go with the 9800pro (around but less than 200$), or the 9600xt, or even something like a x700. Right now i have a 9800pro, and i can tell you, it's a good card. My default clock is aroun 380 and my defualt mem speed is somewhere around 340. Good card, and with the beta 8.07 drivers, it's a really good card to have. Right now i have the 4.10 drivers, and to me, they just scuk. You can be amused by the simplest of things. The smartest people in the world, over-look the smallest objects.

Reply: (edit)Given the 2 choices, I'd definitely go with the 5500 over the SE. If you're looking for a decent budget card, I've read good reviews about the Radeon 9550...it's better than either of the two you've selected & not much more expensive Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB

Reply: (edit)"dont get the tha amd 64 bit prossesor its the first 64 bit prossesor . reasons hardly andy apps too much money" are f*ing joking me you need to know what you are talking about before you open your mouth "it's like buying a new vidio card to play doom three at max when the tecnolegy doesnt egsist yet" wtf are you trying to say? -there are no 64bit apps? i guess that's what you are trying to say.... but what you fail to notice is that 64bit proccesors run 32bit code too and they actually beat 32bit proccesors in these apps you dont buy 64bit just to have 64bit it's ok to give an opinionated response just make sure next time that it makes sense and what you are saying is actually true and have you checked prices on athlon 64s lately, they're as cheap as $160 common sense isn't very common

Reply: (edit)I just tried out an fx5500 on my Athlon 1.4GHz + 2year old asus m/board system. I had a hell of a problem with getting the right drivers. The latest (games crash) are more useless than the early ones (no cdrom drives). Finally settled on v6177 and they seem OK but it's early days. According to other forums my prob is not unique. Have decided to send the fx5500 back and go for a 9600XT - it's about on par with the fx5700, and a little more expensive, but should be rock solid (he says).
