I do realize that the GeForce FX 5200 card is not that great, however, it does have 256 MB of DDR onboard and I was just wondering (knowing very little about video card settings with regard to gaming) if anyone could drop me a few hints on how to get the most out of it when playing Half-Life 2.
The thing is, I have a very good system (AMD 64-bit 3400+ [2.41 GHz], 2 GB of PC3200 DDR), so I was thinking: can I perhaps allocate more resources to the card to compensate for what it cannot do? Don't get me wrong, the performance is not bad as it were, but I was wondering if it was possible to squeeze out some more power.

Flog an old horse all you want, you ain't getting anything better out of it. That card is no match for your system. Deal with it or get a card that complements your rig.

I got the same graphics card and the same game so I know what your talking about :p. My game of Half-Life 2 ran smoothly because:
-Latest Nvidia Graphics Card Drivers
-Disconnect urself from the net and disable all background applications and services that u dont need (including firewall and antivirus cos ur offline)
-Defragging Hard Disk
-increasing AGP Aperture Size in BIOS(see: http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=8&var1=0&var2=32
-Disable unneded Windows Services (see: www.blackviper.com
-Finally, in HL2: turn down the details that u dont need, eg. shadows...try this and tell me if it works.
ps. why is ur rig so good except the graphics card?

i have a geforce fx 5200 but no nothing about cards is they any way i can make it better cause ive not got any money four a newer card yet im saving four a much more better card so is they any way i can make it a bit better
ste the great
