Hi, I have Windows XP SP1 on a Athlon 1.2 GHz, 512 MB SDR machine running on a GeForce 3 64MB Card...
I recently tried installing the new Halo Game Beta and that installed DX9 b...and immediately after that I started experiencing a lot of problems...I found that every time I switch to a higher resolution or a different refresh rate or a different color depth, my monitor would go black and say that it is on standby...
I dont know if it is because of DX9, but now even when I start XP and click on something it just goes black...and remains like that...I would have to reboot once again...can somebody tell me if it is because of DX9...coz before that, I was running graphics intensive games like Mafia, Vice City, etc., and had no such problems...should I do a fresh format or something?

Your main problem is that your GFX card doesnt support DX9 software only the new Geforce FX and ATI Radeon series support DX9 software, this is why your experiencing problems with Halo, and other games soon be relased such as HL2. You can play vice city etc as they are DX8 compatible games, so you wont experience any problems with those. The only way to fix this is simply buy a new DX9 GFX card.

i have a geforce 4 mx440 and im pretty sure it works with directx 9.0 i have games that need it to run and i have installed it and they work fine
