Hello,
I recently bought Battlefield 2 without realizing that my video card is below the recommended system requirments. It recommends a Geforce FX 5700 but I have 5500. I didn't open BF2 and test (because I could not take it back if I did). Does anybody know if it will run on my comp even though it is below recommended?

That's a tough one. There have been a lot of questions about BF2 in these forums lately & I tried doing some searching to get to the bottom of what video cards will/won't work. I couldn't get a definite answer regarding the FX5500. Some people claim it works, some say it doesn't...I think your best bet would be to stick with what's on the box.

Maybe you can find an answer here:

read the REAMME, it says the BF2 only sopport the following video card, and 5500 is not on the list. the lowest geforce card on the list is 5700. so give it a shot. it might work for you. if not, you might wanna get better card. good luck!

OK, Thanks.
I'll try it with my card anyway just to check. If it doesn't work, looks like its time to upgrade.

I just bought a FX5500 yesterday + BF2.
It works.. but i play at default settings and thats everything low and resolution at 1024x768

Medium settings isn't possible.. ok maybe u can tweak/custumize your settings a little to have some things on medium i didn't try that.

So BF2 runs quite well on a FX5500 .. just dont expect to be able to put all videosettings on medium or high.

Now a couple days later i wish i never bought this card..
All the games that played perfect on my Gef4 TI 4200 perform a lot worse on this FX

I only bought it to play BF2.. and im happy i can play that now but got problems in WoW, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, GTA SA, NFSU2 and more... all those games did run much better on my Gef 4

With my Gef 4 i had a 3DMark03 score of like 1500... and best i can get with FX now (WITH OC!) is like 1200 (1000 without tweaking and OC).

Geforce FX series is just trash... i can play BF2 now on low without problems but all other games are worse now..

If u only wanna play BF2 like me and cant afford a good card.. dont buy FX but buy for example a Radeon 9600SE 128MB (my neighboor got that.. all those games run perfect AND he can run BF2 on medium settings without any problems).
The cards are same pricerange.. but that Radeon performs MUCH better then this FX crap :(
