Reply: (edit)My PSU Specs are as follows: Bestec ModeL: ATX-300-12E Rev: D Input: 100-127V-6A 300W Max 200-240V-3A 60/50Hz Output: +12v/15A +5v/30A +3.3v/28A -12v/0.8A +5VSB/2A +5V & +3.3V/180w Max +5V & +12v & +3.3V/288w Max so you guys are saying 300 watt wont be enough?
im on a tight budget (~$150, the card costs $149) and i'd rather go for another card that requires less power than buy a card AND a psu. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? (im planning on playing bf2 and other future games)

Reply: (edit)9600 Pro for BF2 is crap, way to slow, you will get very low frame rates, even my Radeon X850 PE 256mb at max detail averages 50fps, BF2 is very demanding game Get the Geforce 6600gt, it will work fine on your system, but would recommend at least a 400w PSU with at minimum 18amps in the 12V+ rail, I have a 450w PSU with 18amps on the 12V+ and my system is on 24/7 not one problem in almost a year :D Windows XP Pro SP2 Athlon 64 3200 Socket 754 1GB DDR PC3200 Radeon X850XT 256MB PE AGP Total 410GB HDD Space

Reply: (edit)"9600 Pro for BF2 is crap, way to slow, you will get very low frame rates, even my Radeon X850 PE 256mb at max detail averages 50fps, BF2 is very demanding game" And a p4 2.4GHz CPU is really fast for BF2? And he realistically can't run max settings no matter what video card he gets. I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no idea why a 6600GT would be a good purchase when he's got a 2.4GHZ CPU with only 512M RAM. "and isnt 9600 pro a little to slow to run bf2 and the sort?" So if a P4 2.4GHz. So is only 512M RAM. That's my point. You slap in a really fast video card, it's going to be waiting for the CPU to feed it data; you're going to be caching to the hard drive way too often because you don't have enough RAM. If you had a 3.2GHz 800MHz FSB P4, ok, a 6600GT would be a good card for you, but considering a 6600GT is going to give you limited benefit and costly because you need a better power supply, why not just go with an inexpensive 9600 Pro and some more RAM, and when you want BF2 running top notch, upgrade your whole system? Reply: (edit)well its 2.4 athlon xp, not p4, if that makes any difference. i've decided to buy a 9800pro instead, plus a stick of 512 ram. how's that sound? thank you all for the replies.

Reply: (edit)Power consumption between 9800Pro and a 6600GT is about the same; if you needed a new power supply for the 6600GT, you're gonna need one for the 9800 pro. That's why I recommended the 9600 pro. No, it won't make any difference if you have an Athlon or an Intel. 2.4GHz just isn't a lot of power for games like Battlefield 2. It's not horrible, but it's not great either. "Republicans in Congress are moving to ratify a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, thus ending the Iraq insurgency."
