Hey, everyone,
I would like to know if it alright to use gaming video cards with 3D modeling. As of right now, I have an ATI RADEON 8500LE 128MB DDR. However, with all of the hardware demanding games coming out, I feel its about that time again...Video Card upgrade. Would a video card like the ATI RADEON 9600XT 256MB DDR be good enough for programs like Maya 6 Unlimited and 3D Studio Max? 'Cause I know damn well it should be excellent for gaming.
Thanks,
Kain

Wait for it? it IS out.

Gaming cards are generally rather poo for 3d modelling, best to buy a specialist card, although they can be very expensive.

Having said that, a 9800Pro shouldn't be too bad for what you want.

Some people are like Slinkies?, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

No gaming card can help with the rendering of 3D scenes for programs like Max or Maya. It will improve the FPS at which you work within the modeling and animating environment, but renedering is done with the CPU only unless you have a 3D card like a Quadro or some other expensive ones.
