Well I'm planning to build a new PC to replace my stone-age computer. What I plan to get is:
18" X-Blade (859) Black/Silver Case w/Transparent Side Panel 400W P4 Power Supply USB 2.0
Asus 52x Black IDE CDROM
MSI K8N NEO4-Plat.(MS-7125-010) nForce4 Ultra Chipset S939 1PCI-Ex16/4+2PCI/4DDR W/Sound GB-Lan SATA Raid IEEE 1394
AMD® Athlon™ 64 3200+ Socket-939 512K
2x 512MB PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DDR (Samsung)
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB DDR3 PCI-Express w/TV & DVI-I Sapphire
I also plan to use the motherboards on-board audio.
Will these system specs be good for gaming and last for years without any upgrades?
Thx in advance!

What's the 12V ampage on the power supply?
I would go with a DVD ROM drive at the very least since many games come with DVD installation media, plus it's like $10 more. Asus is good though in optical drives. Sure you don't want CD burning functionality, too?
The Athlon 64, make sure it's the Venice.
I would recommend Mushkin or Corsair for the memory. CAS 2.5 and affordable!
The ATI Radeon X800XL isn't a bad card for the money, but you may want to take a look at a comparably priced NVidia card, as they're usually better performers at that price range currently. I'm not partial to NVidia or ATI, but $150 on up, Nvidia is usually more competive right now.
What about your hard drive?

Thx for the advice! Guess I was not thinking about a DVD rom.. so I switched my list to:
Sony 16x DVD ROM drive
and
2x 512MB PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DDR (Corsair VS512MB400)
For the video card, i checked a few reviews and the ATI was rated the best in most games. However, the Nvidia cards did beat the ATI card in some games... but the ATI still had a very good FPS so not a minor loss.
The Hard drive and CD-RW drive are already in this PC and I will be putting it in the new one. Hard drive is an 80GB Western Digital 7200rpm, 8MB Cache.
Thx for the info^^

Might I suggest depending on the specs of your old PC to keep it intact and sell it if it's not too old. Take that money and get a new SATA hard drive, and a DVD burner.
For the DVD drive, stick to Asus, they're fast, quiet, and reliable.

While the ATI X800XL is definitely a great performer and will last for quite some time, It lacks some features that current game producers are implementing, such as shader model v3.0. The nvidia equivalent would be the wiser chioce, plus being as prices are dropping substantially, a 6800gt could be had for a reasonable price.
Also, If you can help it, by all means, stay away from a PSU that comes bundle with a case, Its purely marketing on the case's behalf, and more commen then not are of very poor quility. Get yourself a brand named PSU thats (AT LEAST!) with those specs you mentioned above, 420watts with 18a @12+ rail, this is the most vital component in your rig, do not skimp out on it or your power hungr hardware will be very expensive paper weights!
As far as your CPU and chipset is concerned, it will get the job you want it to do done well, and very efficiently and effectively too.
Do not neglect the harddrive either, (cause its often the most slowest piece of hardware in the whole system) You want your operating system to respond with haste to youy in put commands! 16mb of cache is nearly becoming a standard, and you will greatly benefit from it.
I concure with hero regarding the DVD drive, it just makes more logical sence to purchase DVD drive over a cdrom only drive these days.
CHIPSET---i865pe
CPU--------Prescott 2.8ghz @ 4004Mhz 286x14
FSB--------@ 1144Mhz
RAM-------512x2 in dual config @ 430mhz
GPU--------PNY 6800 16x1,5vp
OS----------WinXP SP2
HDD-------36GB WD Raptor

The power supply question was an important one. Check the amperage on the +12v rail, but besides that, does it have the correct ATX main connector? You'll probably need a 24-pin ATX plug for that board.
ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Ok, I have changed most of the things, this is what I have now:
18" Ogre Black/Silver Case w/Transparent Side Panel USB 2.0
400 Watt ATX12V power supply w/+12VDC 4pin Connector
Asus 16x DVD ROM drive
Western Digital WD800JD 80.0GB 8MB SATA
120mm Ball Bearing Case fan (Clear)
120mm Ball Bearing Case fan (Clear)
MSI K8N NEO4-Plat.(MS-7125-010) nForce4 Ultra Chipset S939 1PCI-Ex16/4+2PCI/4DDR W/Sound GB-Lan SATA Raid IEEE 1394
AMD® Athlon™ 64 3200+ Socket-939 512K Box
1GB PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DDR (Corsair VS1GB400C3)
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB DDR3 PCI-Express w/TV & DVI-I Sapphire
Thx for the tip about the power supply, would this power supply be good enough?
Thx again

You're screwing yourself cost per gigabyte with an 80 gig. Check the price of a 120 and a 160 or even a 250!

Get a 6800GT instead of x800xl. Get the NEC Beige IDE DVD Burner Model ND-3520A BG- for $41 at newegg.com. DOnt' forget arctic silver 5 nor windows if needed. Here's a decent psu Rosewill RP550 ATX 550W Power Supply-57. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822135106R only costs $47. Best value.

ASPIRE ATXB4KLW-AL Antec 400W
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 3700+ San Diego
Corsair 1GB 2x512
eVGA 6600GT
250GB Hard Drive
Sound Blaster Audigy
Windows XP HOME W/SP2

You don't need Arctic Silver. I didn't even use any third party paste at all on my Athlon 64 3000, and I can overclock it with the stock cooler with the stuff that was already on the bottom of it, and I still can hit unglodly high clock speeds (RAM can't keep up though). Not to mention AS voids your warranty with AMD.
Recommend against that Rosewill power supply. Thermaltake is much better quality.
NEC burners are decent. I prefer Lite On or Asus, but NEC are fine.
