I wanted to post a survey to get a few opinions on gaming products and how they affect online gaming. Now i have a spoiled friend who just got a godly pc. With a gt 7800, 2gb ram, and x2 3800+. My oc is bad, so i dont need to describe it. But i noticed when i play gtames like call od duty 2, its easier only. My question is on a fast pc, with a dsl connection or better, is there smoother gameplay with less lag. Also he has a 19inch. Does having a biger screen make playing online vs people easier.

How is it godly compared to people have Athlon FX60 o/c to 3.5Ghz, 4GB DDR600 and SLI 512MB Geforce 7800GTX with 23in LCD WUXGA? Anyways, the lag you describe can be define in 3 different terms..

1. Fps lag = Low frame rate per second, meaning when you look from left to right, it will feel like a "slide" show rather than smooth transition...
2. Ping lag = you click on "fire" button and it take 2 second to actually "fire" instead of instanously...
3. RAM lag = when you run low on physical memory, you will get more hard disk activity when you change to a new map like longer load times...

Hi

the difference between a uber PC (godlike)
and mediocre is apparent in quality of game play ie you can have all the bells and whistles particle effects shadows etc switched on and high frames per second so the gameplay "seems smoother" or 'richer experiance' when compared to the mediocre pc whose lesser visual effects detract, mind you once the 'oohs and ahhs' are done with its plain old shoot em up anyway :D
Ppl stood around gawping at the scenary dont last long imexp, 1024x768 is ok for gaming.
As for online play your as good as your broadband connection, i play UT04 a bit so notice when a player with say 10meg joins, im basically p'owned, it shouldnt happen but it does
servers cannot (so far) even out peoples different connection speeds, so slower 512k or 1meg players tend to get noob status, unfair but happens for now.
What you might find is your local servers are fine but overseas gameservers suffer lag and can give some really weird effects plus hax0rs abound these days so your open to some cheaters.
You can spot them a mile away they never miss.
Always check stats where possible.

My best advice is find a pc your happy with, and same for the gameservers you play on preferably with a good admin, get online

and gl&hf.

Well since it was the first pc that i watched run call of duty 2, and X3 on high it was crazy. But I think I do have low frame rate bacause when i turn it does feel like a slide show. My internet though is fast, around 3mb per second for dsl.

Chris,

Lag is not directly related to throughput, although increased throughput can help alleviate lag.

Lag is the time differential between your computer and the server you're connecting to.

You can have monster bandwidth, and still be lagged. Your ISP only tells you how much data per second can be transmitted between your house and the ISP's network. It doesn't tell you the latency though. Therefore, you can have 100M/sec broadband and still be lagged.

Corn chips are no place for a mighty warrior!
