Overclocking is when someone pushes the speed of their hardware over it's norm using software. It can be dangerous if you dont know what you're doing.
As for upgrading,be more specific. What are you looking for? Whats your budget?

Actually overclocking can be done via
1. software (multiplier changes/FSB changes)
2. Bios (FSB speed/Voltage/Multiplier)
and other ways as well.

Changing the FSB past the processor's/memory rated frequency will overclock a processor past it's rated speed as well as changing the multiplier/FSB combination if the motherboard supports it.

i.e.

A.) AMD Duron 1800 is at 13.5 multiplier stock.
13.5 X 133FSB = 1,795.50 MHZ.........

Overclocked AMD Duron at 13.5 multiplier..
13.5 X 141 FSB = 1,900 MHZ

If you want to play PA properly, I'd upgrade. I played the demo and its one beefy, badly coded piece of turd tbh.

Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb/ 4.12
AMD Barton 2800 @ 2.3ghz
Asus A7N8X E-Deluxe
512 DDRAM PC2700 @ 360mhz

Overclocking...

- Voids your warranty
- Reduces the hardware's lifespan(CPU or GPU)
- Can kill your hardware or overheat

If you really want to overclock, start low..then find your maximum and lower it just a bit for 24/7 use.

Depending on the rest of your system specs you should be able to play that game without upgrading your graphics card. My dad got this game for christmas and it runs alright on his system, which has an Athlon XP 2200+, 512 of RAM and a 128MB FX5200. Give it a shot, and if you're not happy with the performance, then look into a new graphics card.

to upgrade a video card now days on a desktop you have to purchase a new video card. some new high end gaming laptops have upgradable video cards.
