Subject: gaming problem
OS: Windows XP Pro
CPU/Ram: Intel Pentuim D 2.8 Ghz,
Comment:

I just built my first computer and it runs fine except when i play World of Warcraft (that is the only game i have tried so far so i dont know about other games). Sometimes when im playing my computer will just randomly restart, but it doesnt actually restart it just goes black and i hear a buzzing noise through my speakers. I just hit reset and then it boots fine. I have already turned off automatic restart and it still happens. A couple of times i have gotten the windows has recovered from a serious error message and it says it has something to do with drivers. So far I have updated my video card, sound card, BIOS, chipset, and network drivers, and still no luck. It seems totally random when it happens. Sometimes i can play for 8 or 9 hours and it doesnt happen and sometimes it will happen a couple of times an hour.

Here are the specs to my machine

Intel Pentium D Processor, 2.8 Ghz
Intel D945PSN Motherboard
2 GB of RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT Video Card
Hercules Fortissimo II Sound Card
A PCI card for more IDE slots
Antec 430 W Power Supply
Seagate 200 GB hard drive
3 80 mm case fans and 1 120 mm fan

What is going on???

I really don't know, but perhaps it's something like a overheat protection... might want to check your cpu temperature.

Your Pentium will shut down when it gets too hot. Did you yourself put the fan/heatsink and processor on the motherboard? If so, did you use heatsink compound or that thermal tape stuff they sometimes hand out? The HS/fan is mounted securely on the processor??

There are some burn-in programs out on the Internet. Maybe someone here can point you to a good one.

ok, so I bought a new Zalman fan and within 5 minutes of putting the new fan in, it happened again. So im not so sure that it is an overheat problem. Could it maybe be the dirvers? the video card? the motherboard?
