so i have had my rig for like two years and i think its time for an upgrade. I have been reading around the net and later on this year, intel and amd will have new processors coming out. so my question is should i upgrade now or wait a little. what i had in mind was this:
amd athlon X2 3600+ G.Skill 1gb x 2 ddr2800 biostar Tforce550 Artic cooling Freezer 64 pro and a graphics card later.
I will plan to overclock this but should i buy this stuff or should i wait a little longer??

If those are the specs of your current rig, I don't see where your proposed rig would be much better...the only difference would be 2GB RAM vs 1GB. Otherwise, not a great board or CPU & the "Artic cooling Freezer 64 pro" isn't a necessity.
well i was planning to upgrade with little money. I was hopefully going to get that to 3ghz, because a lot of people have. I decided to get that mb cause it had good reviews on newegg and i didnt have lots of money, buy the freezer 64 pro cause of the overclocking that i will be doing.

AMD new processor will possibly need larger motherboard. I heard that they're going quad core via HyperTransport (means 2dual core CPU in different set), thus truckload of power - highly not recommended.
If you're going for intels surely it cost you another set of motherboard and CPU altogether. I agree with "jam", Artic cooling is not a necessity.
I know that AMD CPU is hot but just use the stock cooling instead, its good enough unless if you want to overclock it.I think you can get better CPU with the same amount of money of X2 and cooling.
Better of with Intel Core2 or get a good set of 3DCard later instead. Intel 6420 has 2x2MB cache and dont cost you much, Core2 CPU kick X2 asses with both its low power consumption, less heat and high performance. Good buy.

well the 3600+ that i wanted to get was a oem one so i was forced to buy a cooling thing and i picked that one. I dont have a lot of money and if i can get that 3600+ to like 3ghz i can get similar performance to a e6600 which is far more expensive. Im not really worried about the video card now cause i can still play games good with the video card that i currently have and i dont have any new computer games at the moment.

Most CPUs spend more than 90% of their time in an idle state. With that in mind, a CPU upgrade (in your particular case) won't help you in gaming as much as a video card upgrade will JSYK. Moreover, if you are content with your system's gaming performance as is - then there is arguably hardly any reason to upgrade your CPU.
Interestingly, the rate at which computing technology - sans HDDs - currently unfolds & the cost of a conservative machine overhaul; full upgrades are becoming more & more attractive as opposed to incremental component replacements.
If you cannot afford such an inexpensive project now, best you let the piggy bank marinade till you can ;-)
ok guys thanks for all the help. i will keep in mind will all of what you said and just keep my current rig and just add some more ram and maybe get a new video card for it.

id go with a core 2 duo for 130 ish bucks the 4400 series. and 2 gigs of corsair value ram for 100$. ud be set and a asrock conroe motherboard for 80 ish and a new ps if urs isnt strong enought
I really dont agree with Core2 4series as a new CPU. Better off with AMDs instead, my office is using Core24400 and it really s@$k. Better off with more RAM instead.
