I just got a new pc, and I was wondering how you would rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 for gaming (things like Sims2)

(my old system was a p3 500MHz, yikes)

1.8GHz AMD sempron 2400+
512MB ram
Geforce Nvidia FX 5700LE 256MB
And I know my HD is okay (60 gigs)
WinXP Home

Based on the specs you've listed and alot of assumptions. I'd give it an average rating of about: "7".

Is the system custom built, or mass produced?

What's the speed of your RAM?

What's the speed of the RAM on your Graphics card?

What's the speed of the GPU on your graphics card?

What version of DirectX does it support?

What the speed HDD and size of the cache on your HDD?

What kind of motherboard are you using?

What's the wattage of your Power supply and is quality Power supply?

You could always run some benchmark test on it. SiSoft Sandra. Norton System Works can run tests on it too.

But above all else. It's still prolly 10 times the PC you have. I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. LOL!

Frankly, you're going to see such an improvement over your last computer that it doesn't matter what we think. It should be able to play the Sims 2 (maybe not on maximum settings). Lets face it, this computer isn't top of the line but I think you'll be very happy.

Alert me after you respond otherwise I'll forget to come back.

That system sounds decent...but tell me if you have problems of any kind with the GeForce FX 5700 LE 256MB. I have one and have flashing green textures on Direct3D games and ones with GL Extensions. OpenGL games are OK. If so, tell me how you fixed it(if you did).
