Hey there. I was thinking of upgrading to windows XP64 bit professional. I want to know if it will affect gaming performance and can these games run on xp64? Halflife 2. Battlefield 2. UT2K4. Farcry (32 bit) and counterstrike source. I know its a lot but id be very grateful for all responses, however small.

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

It sure will! It will significantly DECREASE your performance in games. Drivers for XP 64-bit suck right now. Go 32-bit and wait.

i wouldnt agree there, i tried windows 64 about 2 months ago i had to go back to widows 32 cause i couldnt get drivers for my bluetooth or printer. But there were loads of excellent drivers for my graphics card (6600gt) that gave equal if not better performance in gaming and benching.

So as far as gaming was concerned windows 64 should be allot better performing than 32.

Plus you mention far cry in your post, there is a 64 bit patch for farcry you can download free with extra levels. the patch is really impressive farcry looked amaing with improved depth and quality of the graphics. It really showcased the way 64 bit can boost gaming performance.

The graphics drivers were from www.guru3d.com

One last thing and i dont have a clue why this happened but my temps were lower by 10 degrees or so on my graphics card with the 64 bit drivers. Compared to 32 bit drivers with EXACTLY the same pc setup (fans etc) and gpu,mem frequency (582,1170) Still havnt been able to work out why lol!!!
