Any advice for gaming notebooks? I have my eyes on Asus Z70VA. I don't wanna spend 2G's for brand like Acer Ferrari, Dell XPS, Alienware, or ABS. My budget is about $1300 and I'm very familiar w/ asus brand since Ive been using Asus for my mobo :). THank you for your input.

I'd advise against a gaming laptop. The mobile graphics cards are disappointing and they'll eventually break your heart. I bought a high end Toshiba a couple of years ago. The past year, playing on it has just been frustrating - even relatively graphics-benign games like World of Warcraft or City of Heroes bog down to unplayable (2-5 fps) at native resolution.

What's more frustrating is that there's no way to upgrade it short of buying a new laptop. You can add RAM, but that's really it.

Anyhow, my Toshiba died about a week ago. Another source of frustration: there's absolutely nothing I can salvage out of it on a new system. And there's no way to swap out components in order to diagnose the failure.

Also consider that if you're going to be gaming for any period of time, using the attached keyboard on a laptop is fatiguing (you have to slouch or lean over to get a good view of the screen). You'll end up buying an external keyboard and mouse probably. At which point, you'll start to wonder why you did a laptop at all.

My advice: buy a mid-range gaming rig for $1100 and a gameboy or psp with the remainder. Laptops are neat for a lot of applications, but general-purpose gaming ain't one of them.
