Subject: Gaming Computer Project Questions.. OS: BLARG! CPU/Ram: Let's not talk about my c

Comment: I'm doing an end-of-highschool project, and for a minor step, it requires me to develop questions and find answers. My project is to design a gaming computer, and make one myself! I have many of the answers to these questions, but I might as well post all to get any insight. Any help on any of these would be great! thanks guys! Nobody worry about answering #1 or #8. 1. What are some of the advantages of P4 and Athlon64 Processors? Which is best for gaming? 2. Do certain processors perform better than stronger opposing brands when given the right MOBO? 3. How valuable is Hyper-threading? What are its limiting variables? 4. How important is RAM brand name? Can they really offer more or less than others when on-the-box features are the same? 5. Do I need a larger HD than 250GB, or a backup drive of 160 GB? 80GB? 6. Is it possible to really have a computer uninhibited in every part from reaching full potential? 7. What’s the best set up to keep games running smoothly? high graphics card or high processor? 8. What kinds of cooling options are there? Benefits of each? How vital is cooling? How hot can a computer get? Why? Thanks a lot for anyone who helps out! I appreciate it. is it worth it? let me work it... <---(?)

Reply: (edit)Do your own homework. GOOGLE. Some people are like Slinkies™, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

Reply: (edit)Hooner's right...these questions have more than one answer and you need to learn enough to consider all of them. That's likely the idea of the project. 1a. Pretty easy to look up 1b. Under what circumstances? 2. Sure. A well thought out system may easily kick the shirt out one thrown together haphazardly, even with identical processors 3a. It's valuable if you need it 3b. About everything in the box 4a. It's a good place to start 4b. Yes 5a. You could 5b. Good idea 5c. Another good idea 6. Sure, if you're talking just about hardware. A screwed up OS won't let anything work up to it's potential 7a. Yes 7b. Yes 8. That alone will keep you busy for days. These are essay questions with no real answers and you're gonna have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince(ss). Again, I agree with a$$hole. You have a lot of work to do and research will help more than name calling. Skip

Reply: (edit)Plain in simple. If I got a free computer but had to customize it right out of my head I would say I want this: 3.2 Ghz AMD Athlon 64bit processor (AMD is like 200mhz faster then Pentium I heard). A Radeon X800 P.E 512mb. 500-600w power supply. 2gb of Ram the faster speeds kind. An Nforce 3 motherbored. Ok my idea kind of fell apart I cant think right now. But anyways, If you want watercooling that is the best way to keeps something cool but is also expensive and dangerous if you have a leak. But it you have like 4 or 5 fans and keep your house air conditioner on cold then you will still get really low temperatures and it wont hurt your video card or CPU. Then wit that water cooling would be a waste. Hope I could help. Ask clearer questions and I will respond ASAP! Good Luck, Ben %00
