Hey,

I own a network gaming center, currently having about 50 computers 10 of them in a VIP section pcs having more ram better video cards etc… I am currently planning on upgrading the VIP section my current computers specs there now is

MB: 915 INTEL
CPU: INTEL 3.0 1MB Cache.
Ram: KINGSTON 512.
VGA: PCI XPRESS 6600 256MB.
HDD: 80GB SATA

And now the above specifications are not functioning well for games I need to upgrade anyone out there can advice me on what specs to get for the new computers?
Putting in mind that I want to get an AMD 64bit based computer with a PCI Express 6800 256MB VGA card but people advice me not to because of the cooling issues.
So can you please give me specs for a computer which will last and perform good for about two more years?

Regards,
AJ

If you're looking for a complete overhaul...

DFI Infinity board s939
Athlon 3700+ San Diego (or maybe 4000+ or FX-53 if you can find them cheap)
AT LEAST 1GB 3200 RAM
Any size SATA HDD (160GB or so should do you)
Either Geforce 7800GT (if you can find them cheaply) or 7600GT for a more midrange solution
Whatever accessories you want e.g. optical drives, etc.
Don't cheap out on a PSU. Like jam says, expect to spend at least $50 on good ATX 2.0 PFC PSUs. Protect your investment!

This setup should keep you playing games for awhile. Really just depends on the amount of money you wanna spend on the video card.

Common, your local gaming celebrities deserve more than that......LOL

Tell you what, why not confiscate 5 out of those 50 systems in your "nosebleed" area and upgrade them to hardcore machines, thereby creating an execute pad for only the Uber gaming geeks.

MOBO: DFI NF4-Ultra.
CPU: Opteron 165.
PSU: At least 500W/PFC Active Antec, FSP, or PCPowerCooling with solid rail voltages.
GPU: X1800XT 512MB ($300.00)
RAM: Kingston, Mushkin or another good brand (2GB)
Thermal Compound: If needed.

Then crank them up, let 'em loose and watch the fireworks from your office.

The Opteron 165 processor might not be a good solution for him if he's not comfortable with overclocking all of his machines.

They told you there's an issue with AMD instead of Intel because of cooling? Tell whomever told you that they need to do their homework. AMD's have less of a heat problem than Intel's.

Go with an Athlon 64 3700 for the CPU, 1-2 gigs of RAM, and a 7800GT's for video cards.
