Comment: I really need help.. Every time I start to play a game (half-life, priston tale, baldurs gate, quake, gta3) it starts off nicely and then crashes after 5-10 minutes. I have _no_ idea what could be causing this. I have tried changing my mainboard, changing my gfx card and upgrading windows xp home to xp pro. There are no error signs or nothing, the game just freezes and nothing exept a reset works. I have no idea where to turn next and I don't want to buy a completely new computer.. any ideas? System: win xp pro gf4 ti-4200 asus a7v600-x (via chipset) 2x Maxtor DiamondMax 9 120G HDD 1024Mb 333mhz DDR ram Creative Audigy 2 generic cdrom integrated network card I have all the latest drivers and win updates directx 9.0b (dxdiag says no problems) //req

Reply: (edit)Check your CPU temp when it crashes; it could be overheating. I really hope you didn't seriously upgrade to pro just for that...

Reply: (edit)I had this problem also and the way i fixed it was not very pleasing to me but i did regain great stability. I had to drop my cpu and memory FSB from 166 to 146 and the problem was solved. The only thing i could think of was the cpu was overheating and by droping FSB it lowered the MHZ of the cpu, there by lowering core temperature. My heatsink and fan is a volcano 11 wich is rated for an even larger cpu than waht i have so it still makes no sense to me why this "fix" works. kinda sux

Reply: (edit)The cpu temp is ~55 degrees celcius so I think it isn't _that_ high. Measured using Asus Probe utility with 2 monitors, when it crashed the last temp was 5. I have "normal cooling" so no big heatsinks but I have a high powered table fan blowing also so it should be _really_ cool. :P //req

Reply: (edit)Check your power supply voltages, they may be dropping as your pc heats up. A new power supply is cheap and easy to replace. nuff said

Reply: (edit)55 is pretty high (although CPUs today should work up until at least 60... I'd try running CPU cooling software (CPU-Idle, Waterfall, etc. - only run one), as well as opening the case and have a fan (A/C, if possible :P) blow into it. If that fixes your problem, then it's due to overheating. Simple fixes include: Making sure cables (especially IDE cables) don't prevent air-flow within your case Making sure your heatsink/fan are seated properly Moving your computer to a cooler room Underclocking your CPU/FSB Buying a bigger and better cooling unit (Liquid Nitrogen :D)
