Hi,
I need some help with a couple of games from Electronic Arts.
Back when I got my first PC in 1996, I bought a bunch of games from them. I was running Win 95 at the time. Every time I installed one of these games I couldn't ever get any of them to work. As they were cheap and I didn't know too much about computers at the time, I thought they were just junk games and never bought anything from Electronic Art again.
Well since then I went to school for Tech support, Build and repaired a bunch of computers and even have my A+ cert. I got out of school in 8-01 and with everything that happened in NY and the job market crashing, I never was able to get into the IT field. However I do, do computer repair at my house part time.
I have a computer here now running Min ME. The customer's complaint is that he cant get a few of his games working. Guess who makes them? The first game is FIFA World Cup 2002 and the second is FIFA 2000.
When ever I install them on his machine the install goes fine. When I click the icon to play them, the screen goes black and the comp hangs. A reboot is the only way to get it running again. If I let auto run start the CD and click on play I get the same thing. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work when the machine hangs. I have installed Direct X 8.0, Updates his video driver, performed all Win updates and ran Norton win doctor, ad aware, and a diag program that I have that checks the mem and video and everything checks out OK.

The machine is a Compaq, one of the cheap ones. It has 128 megs and an onboard vid controller made by S3 Graphics. I cant find any info as to any video memory allocation size. There is almost no info included with the games, Just a CD and install instructions. There is no real valuable support on the EA web site.

I then decided to try these two games on my Win 2000 Pro machine. just as on the other computer the install went fine. When I try to play them I get a start screen and then it just goes back to the desk top and my background picture is centered instead of stretched across the whole screen. My comp is a 1.0 Gig P3, 512 Ram, Geforce 4 with 128 vid memory. so it should be well over any requirements to run these cheap games.

Can anyone give me some ideas? Does anyone here have any games from EA that actually work? I see on their web site forums that people are using their games, I just can't seem to get them working, and I have never had a PC problem that I couldn't fix. This just has me stumped.

Thanks,
MDC

Electronic Arts are probably THE most renowned games company in the world, there is nothing "cheap" about anything they do.

I have around ten EA games, ranging from ancient to brand new, and they all run fine, no problems at all.

Having said that, I have come accross other people with your problem, just cannot install certain EA games..............

Sorry, I have no solution.

lol, you sure are stumped arn't you. But you've done all the right things. Just not the unknown things lol. Ill give u an example of what you should be looking for.

Try this one out, should do the trick for that game, if it doesn't look for the 1.04b patch. Other game you going to have to help yourself but shouldn;t be to hard.
EA isn't that bad, they just cheap.

Oh and tell the client never to delete the game or their on there own.

If this doesn't work though, then its out of ur hands unless you can edit exe files or buy him a new video card/windows. But im pretty sure the hacker edited the exe well though i can not test it myself cause i don't have the game. Ya and no need for the Cd anymore too.
