So I picked up Crysis today, installed the game and everything was working fine. I then tried to patch the game, 1.1,1.2 and 1.2.1, and then a strange problem started happening. Basically, my PC just stopped detecting the disc. Everytime I would try and load the game up, it would come up telling me to insert the original Crysis disc, which is already in the drive.

I then tried to play another game, Command and Conquer 3, and it worked fine. And then I tried Civilization 4 and I experience the same problem as the Crysis disc, and the link is they are both Games for Windows discs. So I un-installed Crysis and everything to do with it, deleted the patches and even done a System Restore, but the problem is still here, and I can't install Crysis again.

I can't really find any info on this kind of problem, and I am getting rather annoyed. If anybody has any idea, I would greatly appreciate a response.

Thanks.

how old is your optical drive? I remember a few years ago when manufacturers were getting all crazy about pirating, they started including something on the disk that was intended to prevent piracy. instead, it prevented legitimate copies of the disks from being run on older optical (CD/DVD) drives.

if your optical drive is less than a year or 2 old, this is probably not your issue. but if it's a few years old, it might be worth a few more bucks to pick up a new drive and give that a try.

good luck.

Unfortunately my drive is only a few months old so I can't see that being the problem.

I apologise. It's just that so many people don't bother to google before asking a question.

I hope you find the solution.

It's not a problem, there are some other forums that I frequent and I have said the same thing to others before.

I am leaning towards a hardware failure for this, I think I will test the drive on another computer and see what happens. I may just have to buy a new drive, which isn't that bad because they aren't exactly expensive :)
