with 480MB of RAM
32mb VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
My problem is that i cant run most games because of my video card
So my questions are : #1 Witch is the best video card i could buy
and #2 what games can i run with this configuration

Need to know the make/model of the motherboard & what type of upgrade slot is available for the video card. Just about anything is better than the Unichrome IGP but AGP is preferrable to standard PCI. Adding more RAM would help too.

How much are you willing to spend for a card & what type of games are you into?

My RAM has been upgraded once.
My mother board is Shuttle inc MK40V
Chipset VIA KM400
Also is seems that my actual ram is 512MB and my IGP is stealing some of it

OK, here's your motherboard; you can see it has a 8x agp slot and 2 pci slots. You want an AGP video card.

Since this is a Shuttle motherboard, I gotta ask if you have a small cube case like the one on this page?

Reason is that the size and power supplies available will severely limit video card choices. If you have a normal mid-tower style, everything should be OK for an upgrade.

The ATI HD3850 AGP is the best AGP card out there and will set you back about $100. A good power supply to run it will add $50-60 to that.

Read the label on your power supply. We need the manufacturer, model number, and amps available on the +12v rail.

The unichrome IGP is okay, it's not that bad. It won't run anything that requires hardware shaders, but it will run titles like Unreal, UT, Half-life 1/2 and any HL 1/2 mod for that matter, GTA 3 series(not sure how well, but it runs on my Balance C3 laptop with unichrome IGP), RTCW, etc.

There's plenty out there, you just have to look.

PowerMac 9600(1 ghz G4)
512mb RAM
50gb SCSI
ATi 9200 PCI

"The unichrome IGP is okay, it's not that bad"

You've got to be kidding? There aren't many IGP that are worse. Out of 204 laptop graphics tested, the Unichrome ranks 197th & 198th.

"My RAM has been upgraded once"

It's due for another upgrade.

Skip is right on with his comments. If you have one of those little "lunchbox" PC's, your video card choices will be severely limited because of the cramped case & the weak power supply. Even so, anything will be an improvement over the crappy Unichrome, plus you'll get your 32MB of badly needed RAM back.

Are you willing to invest in a new power supply? Considering you have an older ATX system with a 20-pin plug, you *should* be able to find a decent 350-400W unit for about $40.

If you don't wanna invest in a PSU, you'll have to limit your video card choice a bit. Like I said, anything is better than the IGP. Here's a GeForce FX5500 for $35:

Or here's a Radeon 9550 for $43:

The 9550 is an old favorite of mine. I'm still running one in my P4 Linux box. FYI, the 9550 is actually an underclocked 9600, so if you're an overclocker, you can easily crank up the settings to the 9600 level (or higher) by using ATiTool.
