Can anyone help me? I've just bought a new computer: AMD 2800+, 512 DDR RAM, ATI 9800 All in wonder and a Soundblaster Audigy platinum 2 EX. All my games keep quiting to windows after a short period of time with no explanation as to why? Anybody had anything like this happen to them?

Because you're using Windoze. If you want crashing, you have the right OS. Get Linux.

Retrogamer, that's a particularly unhelpful suggestion. None of the games he has will run on Linux - he'd have to buy all new stuff, ~if~ there're Linux versions available.

Maybe someone else could suggest something reasonable?

My first guess would be overheating. Check to ensure the fan on your video card is running, as well as your CPU fan. Try removing the side of the case and blowing a house fan onto the board. Good luck.

I'd shut off all that's running in the background when running the game, then reinstall one at a time to see which is the culprit. Usually the Virus checker is the bad guy.

I've got your ticket buddy, I had the same exact problem when I bought my computer (Athlon2400 ATI 9700 PRO etc). It's your RAM, the timings are slightly off at your current speed (400mhz?). Call your OEM and have them send you a new stick, in the meantime lower your clock speeds to 333mhz. If you don't know how, press shift 3 times before your computer starts up (not sure its shift though) and this takes you into the BIOS control. From there go to memory timings and set you speed to 333, there's instructions in the BIOS control so you won't get lost. Have fun.
