Comment:

I can't get over the fact that I have an AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.00 GB of Ram, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra(with the most recent drivers) and still I experience a system crash when I try and start games. No error message, the initial desktop picture of the game freezes in the desktop and my computer freezes and I have to shut it down. Doom 3 Did this Tiger woods 2005 my most recent purchase does this and tony hawk did it as well. Any help, which I can not find with tech support through any of the games would be greatly appreciated. This is not really a follow up, just googled my problem and found this sounds sorta up my alley. this is more like a person that shares the same problem. Thanks,

Matt

Hi,
Have you installed the latest chipset drivers?
How about cooling in your case?Do you have sufficient airflow to keep things at a reasonable temp?
I would also suggest you get rid of SP2 as I hear many people having problems (especially with gaming)due to SP2 being installed.
Have you checked to make sure your ram is good?Maybe you should try running memtest.
Oh also, make sure you have the latest patches for the games.

Make sure you aren't running a lot of processes in the background. They might cause a game to slow down/crash if there were enough of them.

Alert me after you respond otherwise I'll forget to come back.

I've Upgraded my drivers. But with doom and tony hawk underground the tech support at activision said it was because the sempron processor hadnt been tested with there games. But I think its something else. The new halflife game ran just fine, no problems through the completion of the whole game. what exactly is meant by updating my chipset drivers? Maybe thats what I need to do. I Have upgraded to the newest nvidia drivers for my video card so I dont believe thats it. But maybe there are still other drivers to be updated. I've also tried closing absolutely everything even all the start up programs except those that are a necessity, that didnt help. As for Uninstalling SP2 I'm not sure how to go about that because I built this computer and that was the operating system I installed, didnt upgrade to it, so theres no point I can go back to. As for the airflow, I think it is sufficient since I ran the newest halflife game and it requires so much more then these other ones. Maybe this addition of information can help you to help me...thanks so much for responded.

thanks again.

I may be on to something. I got Tiger woods to run by doing something I never tried before. I tried using the old cdrom drive I through in the system, its only 18X and it works properly with it. Maybe I have to install drivers for the new dvd drive I put in the system(if I can find them). Its an AOpen dvd/cd drive. If anyone has any information on why it wouldnt work let me know.

Whats your motherboard model?
You need to find the drivers for the motherboard you have and install them.
