Hello! Trying to do some research for my thesis, but am having some trouble... I need to figure out the exact signals sent down the line of a nintendo gamecube controller's cable when you press a button. Though I would like to get specs for everything (including the 2 analog joysitcks), I'm more than happy if anyone has specs of how the signals for the A,B,X,Y buttons and the digital pad are modulated to fit on the signal cable (which has only 5 lines from what I see...)

Perhaps they are multiplexed? maybe they only need 5 lines? you could always count the signals? try programming a PIC microcontroller to sit between the control pad and the console to count and display the signal patterns on a 7-segment display, for a set period of time for each button. Since the signal is probably digital on each line, it will only be a sequence of 1's and 0's for each keypress on each line, rather than a modulated analogue signal. (Unless it uses a DSP, which is unlikely IMHO for a control pad) ...
