Recently I have been having some problems with my games. For some reason my mmo's would work but my games that required the cd/dvd to play the games wouldn't work. I decided to replace my radeon x600 with a radeon x1950 gt graphics card. Yet I am still having the same problems. When I received the new graphics card the cd with the drivers would not be recognized by the computer. So I installed the catalyst from the internet. While some games work, others do not. Games like oblivion and fear do not work. While Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines works part of the time and games like Black and White do work. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas at what I need to do.
Describe "while some games work, others do not". If games that required a cd or dvd didn't work, why did you replace the video card?
You said the driver cd wasn't recognized either, that leads me to believe its your optical drive. If you have a spare, swap it out and try that.
I'm not an MMO player but those are those online games correct and wouldn't require a CD or DVD while your other games probably do? I would defintely start with your optical drive.

Actually the reason I replaced my graphics card was because of another problem I was having that I thought was a graphics card issue but ended up being a virus issue. Which didn't bother me too much because I wanted a new one anyways. I'll elaborate on what I meant by some work and some don't. For example my games Fear and Oblivion just freeze up. World of Warcraft and 9dragons have no problems and run smoothly. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines though will work fine and run smoothly sometimes and then some times there will be certain details that will just be blacked out or the entire screen altogether. One time I was playing it and the computer just restarted for not reason. Black and White though runs smoothly and causes no problems. I have had no problems with music cds and movie dvds. I don't have a spare optical drive. Also you were correct. MMO's are the online games that don't require cds or dvds to play them. Thanks for the feedback any extra help would be appreciative.
Could also be an overheating problem. Use a motherboard heat monitoring program to check your motherboard and cpu temps. Failing that, when the computer restarts, go directly to your bios and there should be a tab there which shows your temps.
Also, use a program called memtest86 to check your ram. Those kinds of problems could also be caused by faulty ram.
Did you get the virus issue solved? Keep doing regular scans and make sure your virus definitions are up to date as well.

Thanks. 100% sure the virus issue is solved. Took that to a computer tech to get it fixed. I tried using memtest86 once but I could never get the thing to work. I don't have a floppy drive on my computer so I had to download the cd one but I never got it to work. But thanks for the tips. I'll try those out.
