i recently installed tony hawk underground 2 and when i tried to play it i got this big thick line through the game, then after i quit the game my desktop was all fuzzy and so were some icons but not all of them. i re-installed my video card drivers so all worked fine until i tried to play that game again, i had the same outcome (fuzzy icons etc). i decided to experiment, i removed tony hawk from my computer, restarted, still had weird desktop. removed drivers for my Nvidia 6600gt, restart, re install driver 66.93(i know it's not the latest but it works better than the latest one, which doesn't properly support the 6600gt) works fine now. i chose not to reinstall tony hawk and all is well with my computer.
how is it possible that this game could conflict with my drivers? i have never heard of this happening, and it happened consistently (you got the nutshell version of what i did here).
any takers on this matter?
thanks in advance.

Sounds like it's jacking your refresh rate to something your monitor doesn't support.

"does it matter that i have an LCD monitor?"

Most LCD monitors are not good for gaming...that doesn't explain the "big thick line through the game", but it is something you should be aware of. If you have a CRT monitor (or can borrow one), try it & see if the line is still there.

oh, well i mentioned that i have already fixed the problem with the black line, it was a driver problem, caused by the game. the issue is that i would like to be able to play this game without my video drivers going nuts everytime i try to. i don't know why or how any program might go about stuffing up my drivers....
