I installed GK3 on a computer I built a few months ago running WinXP Pro. It installed properly but when I tried to run it, it said unrecognized fatal exception and kicked me back to the desktop. I tried most of the suggestions on sierra’s knowledge base but none worked finally got past that by running GK3 in compatibility mode but now when I try to run it, it says “The following is an invalid resource path .” the only thing it shows is the little period after that. Then the game loads and asks me for CD 1 but does not recognize it when I put it in the CD-ROM. The first problem also has something to do with getting data from the CD to the program as well so I assume it’s the same problem manifesting itself differently. Any ideas on what I should do?

I solved the problem. There's a file that pertains to either copying or playing DVD’s, or maybe both, called mpeg2dmx.ax which causes the error. If you rename the extension so the file loses it meaning to the system, like mpeg2dmx.old, the game runs fine in normal mode, not compatibility mode. I’m sure renaming the file could cause problems with using DVD’s so I would advise renaming it back each time when your done playing the game. It’s not very difficult to do that.
