Hey all...

Finally after much anticipation and research I will be building my new computer this week. Just wanted to share the specs and take any opinions/criticism of the components that I have selected. So here we go...

Case: Thermaltake (don't have the model #)
Motherboard: DFI Lanparty 939
Processor: 3700+ San Diego
Powersupply: Thermaltake 430w
Hard drive: Seagate 120gb SATA
Memory: Corsair XMS 2x512
Video Card: BFG 7800 GT
DVD: LG Dual Layer

Any advice/criticism is appreciated. I understand that I am going against my own advice as far as cost to benefit, but I came into a little extra money recently that put me over the hump. Honestly, it is only a difference of about $250 or so.

No critism here...well done!

2 questions: What speed RAM? Did the PSU require a 24-pin adapter?

Thanks, Jam. Memory is PC 3200.

I believe that the PSU does require the adapter, but thankfully Thermaltake includes it with the PSU.

That PSU's been a "forum favorite" for quite sometime now. You won't find a better deal for $30

Hey Randy_s,

Compusa will be selling a 500W Antec ATX 2.0 modular cable power supply the day after Thanksgiving for $50. I'd do that instead.

Also, Compusa will be selling an Hitachi 160 gig SATA for $30 after rebates.

And you're not going to do your 6800GS?! ;-)

LOL, nah, the little extra cash pushed me over the top in the video card department. It was my original choice though until I figured out I could get more POWER!!! :) Zipzoomfly has a really good deal on a BFG OEM 7800 GT right now.

I would go with the Hitachi but I am not a friend of the rebate game. I much prefer to buy something for the retail price as listed. I just don't like waiting 6-8 weeks for my money and in some cases much more.

I may go with the Antec. There is a compusa right around the corner from me which makes returns/exchanges much easier. I got my case locally for this reason.

That's why I build up a buffer of money that sits there. I buy something that has rebates, and I don't miss the money. When the rebates come in, I replenish the account. It's rediculous how much stuff I can get doing that. I now have 3 external hard drives that I've paid probably $100 between the three of them. Personal backup, wife's backup, and one for computer jobs. :-)

Crazy deals going on the day after Thanksgiving. Besides the PSU and hard drive (which my mistake is $20, not $30), they have an Antec Super LanBoy case for $30. 512M USB drive for $10. 80 gig external drive for $30. Seagate 200gig ATA drive for $30. These are all pretty much rebates of course, but who cares? :-)

Eh, darn it! I was eyeing that Lanboy case for awhile, but opted to go with Thermaltake for $20 more. I bought the case from a local, reputable, shop, so I'm not going to return it (it hasn't even arrived yet) in lieu of "business" contacts.

Man, I'm all stressed out. I want to have this thing built for a Lanparty this Friday. :)
