Comment: i recently bought a new eVGA Geforce 6600 GT which came in today. i simply replaced my old geforce FX 5200 with it and installed the 76.50 beta drivers. I ran CS: Source Stress Test with the recommended settings (everything high, reflect world, AA=None, Filtering=Trilinear, vsync=disabled) and i end up getting around 85 fps. Which is a dramatic increase compared to the 5200 which i only have about 40fps from. But... when i am actually playing online, i go anywhere from 120 fps down to a poor fps of about 30 whenever i see another enemy appear, or just about any type of action. I do only have a 350 watt power supply which is the minimum to run this card... which i think is the problem... anyone have any suggestions?

Reply: (edit)well im currently using beta drivers because i have been testing the card using the many different available versions of drivers (71.xx, 66.xx, etc..) and i get the same result from every single one of them... It's like everything is smooth and then bam... i glitch like no other until the action is over. i am using directx 9.0c, and also noticed that at my settings screen it just says that im using directx 9.0, dunno if this matters.

Reply: (edit)im running on cable modem... so i doubt it... but i just put in a 420 watt power supply to test out and it seems to help but it still seems to go from 120 fps down to a pathetic 30 fps... i dont understand... i just ran 3dmark03 and got a 6892, i dont think that is very good. i have my cpu overclocked to 2.6 and it increased my frame but im still bottoming out. also i dont know if this matters but my sticks of ram are of different brands... 1 is geil pc 3200 512 mb and the other is corsair 3200 512 mb... my board doesnt support dual memory modules so i dont think this matters.

Reply: (edit)Latency? Ping? Lag?.....Maybe ???? Am sure you are aware of “latency,” which is the time it takes for data to travel from one point on the Internet to another. Otherwise reffered to as “ping" or "lag.” Your “ping rate” is a measure of the time (in milliseconds) it takes for a signal to travel from your computer to your opponent’s and back. If you have a slow connection to the Internet, or if one of the Internet gateways or servers between you and your opponent is especially busy, you’ll experience high latency, and you may see delays or disruption in your game. In addition to choppy or jerky game play, you’ll be helpless against the attacks of your opponent if he or she has lower latency than you. List of Lists.

Reply: (edit)no my ping stays below 100 so i seriously doubt its a "lag" issue... its kinda wierd. I just pulled out my geil 512 stick and it seems to have helped my issue a bit but im still ranging from 120fps down to 40 or so but is this normal? It tends to happen when an enemy fires his weapon or when im in an open area where i can see alot of stuff.

Reply: (edit)Well its natural that the FPS should drop in these situations, after all the card has got to process more information but it should definately be able to cope better than that. Mattwww.bbcomputing.co.uk matt@bbcomputing.co.uk

Reply: (edit)I have a 6600 GT and get no where above 60/65fps, even at the lowest settings. On average, it hovers between 40 and 50fps. You might wanna try just using the normal drivers, for comparison.
