I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to how to resolve a direct3d 7 test failure? Here is the exact error message. Only direct3d 7 failed.. 8 and 9 are ok.. I have a gforce4 Ti 4200 video card...

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D 9 test results: All tests were successful.

I forgot to add.. I am running 9.0c and the test fails due to not seeing the spinning box at all.

Hope everything works out for the good.

I had a similar problem and found that it was my keyboard software. You will notice it running on your taskbar. Right click on it and switch it off then test the direct 3d again and it should test ok. I then uninstalled the offending software. Seems to be a problem with wireless keyboards as well. Good luck, Pat

I have the same problem, but also with direct draw. The first time i test direct draw it works fine, but if i test it again it doesn't work. Dirct 3d 7 also doesnt work, but 8 and 9 work good too. Also running direct x 9.0c . I dont have keyboard software to speak of, also i have tried running msconfig and turning all the programs off.
You can try too. Go to start > run
type msconfig
goto startup tab
uncheck all the boxes (or at least the ones you dont need)
I would take note of what you turn off so you can turn it back on if need be. Restart your computer and see if it works, no programs should be on. if this does not work i would go back and turn back on your programs, if it does work i would go ahead and wheedle out which program was the culprit. Be careful though, if you dont mark down what you shut off those programs may not start again (Norton Internet Security) and you'll need to turn them back on.
Now, if you can help me...
I have an Nvidia Geforce fx 5200 PCI (128 mb)
Newest drivers, did windows update, all to no avail. Did some other things but i dont want to give other users here any ideas and screw up their computers and blame me for it. See ya later. PS> im running Windows ME 1ghz 608 mb of ram

Charles,

I have the same video card (GeForce4 Ti4200) and had the same problem with Direct X 9.0c (Direct3D 7 test Failure at step 32, but tests 8 and 9 o.k.). Hours of experimentation and google searches later, I uninstalled the 66.93 drivers and installed the next earlier driver (61.77) from nVidia's website. Problem solved.

hi all,

i believe tis latest nvidia driver (66.93) is FAULTY... coz my inno3D FX5700LE also fails at the direct3d 7 (no spinning box)... in fact, tis error caused my 3d aquarium screensaver to fail too...

even after i installed directx 9.0c, e problem wouldn't go away...

when i contacted the co., they told me to either install directx 9.0c (which didn't solve e prob, of course) or to use e OLDER driver, 61.77...

yes, tat did e trick... no more fails at dxdiag, BUT, does it not defeat the purpose of trying to get the "latest" driver?!

I had the exact same problem, which was fixed by using a different driver

I myself am having troubles too.

I have the GeForce FX 5200, and I am getting some problems as well.

It started when I used a TV for my monitor using the video out. Well, somehow, my driver got corrupted, and I had to go get new ones.

I got the latest one from Nvidia, and I've heard it's floawed. I just downloaded the one from OmegaDrivers, and that is flawed as well.

I am having the same Direct3D 7 doesn't work, but the rest do and I think that is the problem.

If anyone has anymore help, please post here. I am clueless on what to do, and I'm getting more and more upset with it.
