What is wrong with your current setup? COD1 is an old game & should have no problem running on a P4 3.2GHz/1.5GB RAM...unless you have onboard video?

Intel's Core 2 Duo is currently the top performing CPU, but it's also expensive when compared to AMD's offerings. And chances are, you're not gonna be able to use many parts from your HP if that's your plan. You're looking at a complete rebuild...board, CPU, RAM, video card & power supply. Also, your HP install of WinXP will no longer work.

i think because he loves this game so much. And we wanted to play it on his newly upgraded PC. The answer will be yes you can. You can even play COD2 after you upgrade. As what jam has mentioned earlier you may need to buy another set of WindowsXP CD as HP only provided OEM version of WindowsXP. You need a retail version of XP to install it on your newly upgraded PC that cost twice the price of OEM or just buy another set of OEM WindowsXP if you're not thinking of doing major upgrade anytime soon.
