Hi,
I have a Dual Core and when I play bf2 on single player, I play it at max settings and it plays beautifully... when I switch to multiplayer, the quality is the same but if I move, it becomes laggy/sketchy/buggy. I tend to have a high ping and it's just not fun to play.
The problem is not with my connection, tried running on one core and that doesnt help..
I have a Dual Core Intel D 2.8ghz, 2 gig of ram, Radeon x1900 512mbs with 6.0mbs DSL connection.... HELP !!!!!!

If you have a high ping, then it is most likely your connection. make sure to play on servers where you have a low ping. Just because you have a high-bandwidth connection does not mean your connection to any one server will be good. Also, you may have a very limited upload speed as most high-bandwidth account are asynchronous.

My connection is not the problem.. it is fine with all other games...
I think my problem is due to the fact that I have a Dual Core processor... the graphics are very nice but laggy, seems like I have low fps...
Anyone think its the Dual core, any solution ?

You already answered your own question:
"...when I play bf2 on single player, I play it at max settings and it plays beautifully... "
If it plays fine on single player and not on multiplayer then it is NOT your processor. The game engine utilizes the CPU in the same manner in single player as it does during online play. In Options<Game Options<Connection Settings what do you have selected "Cable 256Kbps or better" or "T1 LAN"? Try using the other setting for whatever you are using now.

The problem apears to be the internet connection but I tried playing on my 2 year old computer and it runs fine, good connection.
So it's not my connection and changing the setting from Cable to T1 doesnt do anything.
What could the problem be... runs smoothly on single player, low fps/laggy in multi, tried to bring the video setting low, doenst change anything... After a several hours of research on this issue, I came to the conclusion that the dual core is messing something up with my connection. Tried setting the affinity to single core, doesnt work... plus again, it works perfectly on single with both affinity on. Aaaaargggggg.... WHAT IS CAUSING THIS, please, no suggestion out of thin air, I need the opinion with somone that knows what they are talking about or had a similar problem.
Thanks.
Steph

I don't know what your fascination is with thinking this is a dual-core issue. If the game plays fine on single player and not on multiplayer the problem is not the dual core. When we say your connetion is the issue "connection" is not just your internet connection per say. There are many factors that affect your "connection" outside of just the speed which can be different from PC to PC.

If you have a firewall, try playing without it. If that helps either adjust your firewall settings or change to a different firewall. Are you behind a router? Try running connected directly to the modem. If that helps thent he problem is the modem. My last suggestion is to go to speedguide.net and download the sguide_tweak_2k.zip from this page (http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php) and run it. This will optomize your registry settings for a broadband connection.

On a long shot, you might also check out this MS Hotfix concerning dual-cores since you are so certain that is the problem. However it looks like the article is only referring to mobile systems.

Well,
Here is the thing, my connection is smooth and fine with COD2... why would it be so bad with BF2... Also... I play BF2 on my old computer (single core) with NO problem behing a router too. I am assuming based on that, that my connection must not be the problem... but specifically my THIS computer.. what else could cause a problem like this ?

I thought I already explained that above - and you still haven't addresed the issues/questions I raised above.

Each computer has various settings that control internet connections. Things such as packet size, TTL (time to live), and on and on. If there is a problem with the settings on your computer this could affect the game. I am no expert on the method of data transmission used in BF2 vs COD, but there's no reason that they can't be different whcih could explain why one runs ok and the other does not.

Also, if you are running any type of firewall (built in XP firewall or another) that firewall could be causing problems for BF2 only since each game uses different ports.

Here's a test you can do. Start the game and go into a server. Then go into the console (press the "~" key), then type "renderer.drawfps 1" (without the quotes). It is case sensitive so be sure to type it exactly as show. This will make BF2 display your FPS in the game. What are they.

Also, what is the version of the video drivers you are using. Have you updated recently?

You can always "turn off" one of your dual core processors for certain games. CTRL/ALT/DELETE, find BF2.exe, right click, choose 'set affinity' from menu, uncheck one of the CPU check boxes.
